Default Cutting table cover?

My cutting table just grew from a 30 x 72 folding table to a 40 x 84
piece of smooth plywood. I mean, really smooth plywood. What would you
do with the surface if you wanted to use it for cutting and any other
standing tasks? Cover it? Seal it? Wax it? Wax sounds scary.

How about some of those press & stick tiles -- they are really inexpensive. I would also invest in
a couple of large mats. I have one that is 36 x 36 and I love it!

Put a piece of enameled masonite over the top. DH made me a folding/cutting
table which is in the garage, and covered the top with this stuff. It is
smooth, tough and washes easily. I use a mat on top when I am cutting, and
remove it when I am folding clothes. This table is mrvelous.

I've been looking for a reason to buy a router for years. Thanks.

I don't know if it would work, but I think quilters rule makes a VERY
large
pinable cutting board thing that you might consider. Other than that,
yeah, I'd seal it. I'd consider smiling sweetly at someone who owns a
router and isn't afraid to use it too... a round over edge always a
plus...

Satin finish polyurethane varnish. Looks like wax, much tougher.

Oh!! That response made me laugh right out loud. My kind of woman - wants
her own power tools. You go, girl!! Yes, seal it - polyurethane is
phenomenal stuff. And use a 40% off coupon at JoAnns to get the biggest mat
they make. (I think mine is 3 ft x 5 ft).

Seal it on both sides and all edges, especially if you live in the
South. Oil based paint or a couple of good coats of varnish or poly
would give you a nice smooth finish.

Think about staining or painting stripes on it before use use the Poly.
Use 2" painters tape to tape off the stripes. Then the table design
might come in handy for laying out a design or scissor cutting.
