I love coloures, so I do it simple:
All reds in one basket, all mauve in one, all yellow in one (or
sometimes it is two and three)
I am So unprofessione that I mingle different thickness and types,
but when I set all my baskets out on the floor and let my eyes "swim "
in the colores, I am in paradise!

Oh yeah, I love to empty out my collection and just look at what is there!

A couple of weeks ago, I was in John Lewis wool dept (John Lewis is a
UK department store), and there were several pinks next to each other,
looking so pretty that I bought just one ball of each. I have plans
to make a Kaffe Fasset inspired jumper in shades of pink and lilac,
and I need as many different shades as possible, so they will be used.
They weren't expensive yarns - patons and similar - so I wasn't being
extravegent.

We had a very good thread on storing needles.

So how do people deal with those little balls of yarn left over from a
project? How do you store them? They do not fit in a file folder!

Do you keep the gauge trial with the left over yarn? But, some of my
gauge trials are stitch samplers that I want to keep with my patterns, and
not
with my yarns. I guess that means a cross index system, i.e., a note
attached to the yarn that the guage trial is stitch sampler such and such.

So far, I've always undone the gauge trial, and reused the yarn in the
project. Then I read a suggestion from Kaffe Fasset that you save the
trials and turn them into a blanket.

What do you do with your bits of left over yarn? Is this where the
squares exchange comes in?

So far, I keep the small balls in a clear vinyl bag that came with some baby
things in, but the really little bits are kept in another plastic bag inside
that. Reasonable size balls are kept in another box. But I don't have an
excessive amount yet.

I have several books with Kaffe Fassett patterns. I want to do one.
I don't know which yet. Although I've got several I like lots.
A typical Kaffe Fassett pattern uses 10 shades of blue, 8 shades of
pink and 12 shades of turquoise. He uses Rowan yarns - which are
expensive - and you could almost believe he designs things purely to
sell as many balls of wool as possible!

(Actually I am doing one, a cushion cover, called "pastel pots cushion,
except my background is deep purple shelves with a stormy blue sky behind,
and I have re-designed some of the pots to be vases we own. It comes from
the book "glorious interiors". There is a picture of it he

I don't think I have enough leftover to sort/store. I have a paper
bag with lots of little pieces, going down slowly because of the 6 x
6...

I've used the leftovers to teach my daughter to crochet, and she
always wants the leftover yarn to work on a "project".

BTW: It's saturday evening here, but I have NOT drunk any vine yet,
even if you should think so!LOL!

Heh, heh. Well Aud, I'm in the middle of BBQing some steak for
supper, and am on my second glass of wine. (giggle) I find that
cooking is much easier accompanied by a bottle of wine.

Definitely, Shelagh! Especially on a Saturday night. Hope you enjoyed
yourself.

Katherine

Dinner turned out very well thank you (smile). Very tasty. I even managed
to knit on my sweater later too.

Penny, It must be a pleasure to work with Kaffe Fasset!
Beautiful pattern! And your coloures sounds very nice!
When you have many coloures you can make your own Fasset inspired work ,
and you have allready done so with this cushion cover, I think!

Well, I might never make the jumper. I'm trying very hard to seperate
in my mind between "projects" - which I things I will/am definitely doing
- and "ideas", which are things that I might do, unless I have a better
idea another day. This particular jumper is still in the idea stage.

OTOH, maybe you don't mind your wool going from your 'stash' to
my 'stash', and maybe be used for something else. In that case, if you
email a reply to this post (I'm emailing it too), then I'll send you my
address.

I just went and weighed the leftover sock yarn. WITHOUT the bin I'm
looking at approximately 10# of oddballs, mostly partial balls of
Opal. I haven't gotten desperate enough to mix and match, but since
I'm on a (yarn, fiber) diet this year I may do if I manage to get
through the new stuff in the stash.

Yow!!! My grandkids think sox made out of bits and pieces are the coolest
thing since sliced bread. So, I have a ready made market for odds and sods
sox. (grin)

I save my little bits of sock wool te re-knit the toes of Otto's socks,
when I wears them into holyness....LOL. Any colour is fine. Otto does
not mind, he is very colour blind....LOL We do get lots of comments
though.....grey socks with bright variegated red toes.....left over from
socks for Skye.....LOL
