If it is something that might make a good focus fabric/border I
usually buy 2 1/2 - 3 yards, because I like to cut borders on the lengthwise grain Thanks, Pati. That was really helpful to me. When I first started quilting, I found a company that sold FQs very inexpensively. I ordered a bunch and let them choose the colors because that was my biggest bug-a-boo. I could never figure out what went with what. I played with those FQs for weeks, placing them together, changing arrangements, patterns, colors etc. Then I discovered the color wheel and everything seemed to pop into place. Now i had some sense of what to select that would be pleasing together and plenty of fabric to test if my ideas were "correct". So, I have a great fondness for FQs but haven't cut and stitched them. It would be like hacking up my friends. Thanks to all of you for your answers . Morag in Detroit |
