Default State Fair this weekend

The state fair starts this week-end.

They don't usually have much jewelry I'm interested in. But I'll check out
what their is. My favorite booth is the one that sells rocks and such.
I've gotten spun volcanic glass from air vents, crystal balls, wonderful
stone carvings. I wonder what she'll have this year.

Prairieson has taken off the next two Fridays so we can do fairs.

Yup, Alaska. Because of the distances here we have "state fairs" in several
locations. They are pretty local affairs, with the low populations we have
here. There are less than a million people in the whole state -- which is 3
times the size of Texas.

never even been to a fair until last weekend. Pitiful, eh? So we're doing
Wood County tomorrow, then the state fair in Columbus next weekend. Both
Ohio.

FUNNEL CAKE?!?!? I've never had it, always dreamed of some! eyes bulging!

There are certain food items I just have to have while
the fair is here, my favorite is a funnel cake.

Have fun. See the animals! I love the 4-H wash-and-brush-up look on
critters that know they are there to strut, and do.

PoRRo's post with a link to her site reminds my of what else I like at the
rock booth at the fair. I have gotten several fossils there, including
mammoth tooth, mastadon tooth, ammonite, chitons.

If she has a small fossil, I'd like to make a mold of it for PMC.

Porro's work made me think the same thing. That mold-making material is a
slippery slope.....

State Fair food is the best. If the weather's not too terribly hot, I am
going to try and drag Ken to ours. I have no idea when it is, but I am sure
I will hear about it.

Our fair starts next weekend. I'll have to look around to see if there

are any
boothes that sell rocks. In all the years I've gone (my office building

is on
the fairgrounds), I've not seen any gem or mineral booths. There is this

one
booth that has the most gorgeous stuff, mostly southwestern but they also

carry
some of the gem beaded jewelry. One of these days I'm going to actually

have
enough money with me to buy something. Also they have this cool artisians

tent
that usually has some lampworked beads and jewelry plus they give
demonstrations on glass blowing which I thought was really cool to watch.

Usually I say I'm not even going to bother with going out on the grounds
because it is always hot and very humid but its like some force just drags

me
out there, you know? There are certain food items I just have to have

while
the fair is here, my favorite is a funnel cake. Oh, and this one stand

has the
best cinnamon rolls. Yum, I'm getting hungry.
