Default bowl rims

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know why antique mixing bowls were left unglazed on the
rim? I'm trying to make a set of mixing bowls like the old ones and I
was curious about that. Thanks
Sandi

Probably they were r fired stacked lip to lip, bottom to bottom, to fit
lots in the kiln. I think they called this "boxing."
