from the Oxford Dictionary:-
NIGGLE: Be over attentive to details. Find fault in a petty way. Irritate.
Nag Pettily. Trifling complaint or criticism. A worry or annoyance.

So there you go, we say things like, "I've had this idea niggling around my
head. or "Something she said niggled me!"

Been asked about this one a few times Mirjam, so gonna post it as a subject
line...LOL
Cheers.......Cher

I've had various emails over the last couple of months, that some of the
squares are way too big, and therefore awkward to fit neatly into an

afghan.

Whilst no-one is really moaning too hard. Might I ask that you all try

to
get your squares to be six inches. of course you may not be able to get

it
exact, if you find by measuring it that it is way too big, try looking

at
the stitches, and counting these in the inch, so if you have four

stitches
shown along a row to the inch, and you need six inches, then times the
4stitches by the six inches and you get a total of 24 stitches to cast

on...
If it is 4 and a half stitches to the inch, drop your needle size down...
Now if on these example 24stitches you need say a 3stitch garter border,
deduct these 3sts at each end (6sts) from the 24sts... so 24 - 6 =
18stitches...is the amount in the middle to pattern on. Of course your
stitches may be more to the inch, so this is only an example. So try

doing
a swatch on the yarn you are going to use...cast on 20sts and do a garter
stitch couple of rows, then stocking stitch (1row plain 1row purl) and

place
a tape measure over these stocking stitches and look at an inch and get

your
stitches..

If you still can't get this, I am willing to help you work out the size,

and
a reasonable pattern. OR do your square just UNDER the six inch size,
rather than over it. It is easier for your partner to add a border of

dc
than it is to unpick it if it is too wide and/or too long..

In the meantime, I'm not here to nag, just bringing everyones attention

to
this.

Cheers.....Cher

Congratulation Karen
with your TKGA

Blocking can help also. I found that if I aim for 5-1/2", accounting for
the single crochet around the edge, I am usually able to block it to 6" --

FWIW, I recently turned in my TKGA Level 1 Handknitting swatches, and huge
amount of it was about gauge and blocking -- doing this 6x6 squares project
helped me immensely with that.
