Disappointed in Road to CA . . . .
. . . and crashing my car had nothing to do with it! I thought there were
too few quilts and too many vendors. I would have paid more to see more quilts. This year's quilts seemed, to me at least, to be heavier on the art quilts and lighter on the traditional. Your thoughts? |

I didn't go, but my mother did, and she thought there were a larger amount
of "art quilts" there too. That seems to be the way of the bigger quilt shows these days! "WHOLEYLADY" wrote in message ... . . . and crashing my car had nothing to do with it! Even in HOuston I thought there were alot more Art Quilts than the year
before. Alot of them won ribbons too. When we looked at the quilts that did not win, some of them were magnificent and we wondered what the judges were looking for. Linda |

might reflect a trend in what quilters consider to be extraordinary now
a days? in a traditional quilt, you might achieve wonderful workmanship, and have a perfect combination of colour, but you have after all used an available design or some variation of one, your creativity is, in that sense at least, limited. the art quilt allows you to go beyond that and have no boundaries. while I can appreciate a well made traditional, what blows me away is usually an art quilt. not those that want to go beyond creating something beautiful and striking with cloth... I posted my thoughts on the other road thread. I find myself usually
disappointed in that show for some reason I can't explain. Lots of the local quilters I know don't make a big effort to go there every year. Just occasionally. The smaller shows with more local work is more what they seem to be drawn to. The quilt industry needs to come up with something to wow us that we all need to buy. That isn't happening now.
