(*VERY* tongue in cheek) Assuming you are male, and most stitchers are female, why on earth do you want to hang out with *male* stitchers? I know gay marriages are all the rage these days, but I am *definitely* not looking for any other male stitcher to "hang out with" (VBG). -- Jim Cripwell. From Canada. Land of the Key Bird. Hi! I'm new here too, or at least I've been gone from here for about 4 yrs
and have just returned. I'm not male, but I am very interested in your work. My daughter who loved to xstitch died in 2000 and I have been pondering a tribute to her for a couple of years now and had just decided on TW's Millennium, except that I didn't like the angels' faces, when I saw your post this morning. It's perfect. I hope it's okay for me to copy your work, since it's only for myself. I love the way you've turned it into a plea for conservation, but I'll be keeping the Millennium theme. I thought I might change the quotation to Psalm 90: a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. "Lucille" wrote in message ... Oh my I wonder what Gay Marriages have to do with Male Stitchers? Are you
trying to "hint" that all male stitchers are "Gay"? Boy I know a few hundred that would argue that point quite strongly. Boy I know a few hundred that would argue that point quite strongly. Marc I did write "*VERY* tongue in cheek", and was merely trying to be funny. But there may be a serious side to this. When Jill died, I had to put together what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I was fortunate to love embroidery and needlework, so I was able to join the Ottawa Valley Guild of Stitchery. As a result I have met, and continue to work with, a wonderful group of delightful ladies; and I thoroughly enjoy female company. Now if I have an asset like loving needlework, and as a result I have an "in" to lots of female company, why would I, as a full red-blooded male, be so stupid to go out of my way to seek out *male* stitchers? It makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. -- Jim Cripwell. From Canada. Land of the Key Bird. I fully understand where you are coming from AND I recognized the humor in
your "Tongue in Cheek". I think the main thing is that you ARE stitching. Several years ago I started a male stitchers group on Yahoo and we got up to about 70 members (of all persuasions)but it wasn't really very active so I deleted it not too long ago. Someone else has started it back up. There once was a Gay Male Stitchers group on Yahoo but because it had the word "Gay" in it Yahoo deemed it necessary to delete it without notification. Had about a hundred plus members. I am in so many Yahoo Groups where I am sometimes the only male member....even my own group which has well over 600 members all stitchers I am about only one of three male stitchers and probably the only one that speaks out. All the groups I'm in with the *female* stitchers has been a wonderful experience AND I've made many a good friend from those groups. Again the main thing is WE stitch. As for Gay Marriage.... I happen to be Gay and living with the same person for almost 37 years now and I detest the term "Gay Marriage". If only they had chosen some other name I might have been able to abide by it. You don't need a paper to hang on the wall to make you a stitcher any more than a person has to have a piece of paper saying you are married. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone...that is completely not my intention. I shall now keep still on the subject. The one obvious reason a male stitcher would seek out another male
stitcher is to commiserate over the particular way male stitchers are snubbed by certain needlework shop owners. No female stitcher can quite relate to that. It is also probably nice to know there are other men who enjoy what some in society deem a "woman's hobby". Your work is lovely, Vincent. I'm a T.W. fan but haven't got around to actually stitching any of her pieces yet. I also like the frames you have built from that old crib. I've got a crib sitting down in the basement...wheels are spinning... -- Brenda NEW to Styx, classic to the world: Big Bang Theory |
