looking for... "bug eye" lenses
Having Googled unsuccessfully I'm hoping that someone on this list knows the
answer! In book "On the surface" Wendy Hill says......... "To help imagine what a group of fabrics will look like when cut up and placed together, look through one of the gadgets which imitates the vision of a fly. I call them "bug-eye lenses. They come with different configurations on the lenses, including triangles, hexagons, squares and more. Aim it at the bolts of fabric at the store, and you'll see the different fabrics side by side, as if cut up and mixed together". I've found many websites selling goggles that do what's required but I'm not going into any shop with those on! Anyway, the picture in the book shows something like a jeweller's loupe but in plastic... 4 are illustrated... presumably each shows a different pattern. Anyone know what these gadgets are really called? Or where I can buy? Thanks Anne H. |

Anyone know what these gadgets are really called? Or where I can buy? I haven't a clue, but if I were looking for special optical lenses I'd begin with a search on "Edmund Scientific" which sells all sorts of science gadgets, including a wide assorment of lenses. And I know there are camera lenses that give weird effects, but I suspect they are not inexpensive. Rhoda ~ that's an interesting website, but they don't have these gadgets.... thanks for the idea. I've had a look at camera accessories but, as you say, they're pricey! Anne H. |

My problem was finding a name for this gadget and you've solved it. I live in the UK & am hoping that there's a supplier here somewhere. If it's not available in UK, I'll order from Clotilde online. Many thanks Anne H. |
