Thanks all. I think I'll try to do the quilting without anything. As Anne
mentioned, spreading it out on my lap and sewing. If this doesn't work well for me, I'll pick up a 14" hoop. I'll let you know how this works out for me. -- Bonnie NJ |

I just picked up a hoop for $2.99. It is sort of a cheapie but it is
just for testing purposes. I thought even a cheapie would cost more. Taria Bonnie NJ wrote: Thanks all. I think I'll try to do the quilting without anything. I don't use a hoop, either. I drape the quilt over a low ironing board
set in front of me and let it do most of the supporting. If the quilt's big enough to need more help than that, I put a chair behind the ironing board to hold the rolled up quilt. My mom quilts the same way, and our stitches, while perhaps not prize-winners, are neat and even. The only trouble with this method is that the cat likes to sit on the ironing board and "help." Monique the nine-fingered. I quilt in the loveseat, my back against the arm of the chair and my feet up. The cats will perch under the quilt between the legs, on top of the quilt between my legs, on the belly on top of the quilt, on the back of the loveseat, on the arm of the loveseat, or right on the floor above, below or next to draped quilt, or of course any combination thereof. So far, I don't bother with hoops with quilts. -georg |

It's all right, I can't either! I just remember that line as a standout
from a terrible 80s British comedy series called Allo Allo. Gosh I loved that show. -- Sharon from Melbourne Australia (Queen of Down Under) http://www.geocities.com/shazrules/craft.html (takes a while to load) http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shazrules/my_photos (same as website but quicker) "Bonnie NJ" wrote in message link.net... Hi All, I was wondering if any of you hand quilters have quilted a large quilt without a frame. I do quite a few of my small quilts (wall and lap size) without a frame - just in my lap. I am considering doing a twin size quilt this way. My frame has a queen size on it and I don't know when I'll get around to finishing that quilt. In the mean time I have two twin tops awaiting quilting and thought I might attempt doing them without a frame. Any thoughts? -- Bonnie NJ |
