Default Request re Chinese lacquer furniture

Long ago, a friend gave me three pieces of gorgeous miniature dining room
furniture that were black, sort of like Chinese lacquer, with an Oriental
design painted on them in several colors. They were exquisite. I think she
bought them at Horchow or Gump's. Definitely not toys. I would love to
find them or other furniture of the same quality. Not toys, but very fine,
detailed miniatures. Can anyone point me toward a good source? I've been
looking around the net and on ebay, but it's hard to tell how fine the
quality is.

Thanks very much from a first time poster,

Smokey

Hello Smokey,

This is a very quiet group - particularly so, at the present time. I think
everyone is off on their holidays.

I don't think I can help, apart from asking the obvious - have you tried the
searches - Google etc?

Good luck, anyway,
Jackie

Thanks very much for responding! Yes, I've done some google searches, but
it's hard to tell quality very well by just looking at the pictures. I was
thinking if I could just get the name of some really high quality companies,
that might help. But I sure appreciate your posting. :-)

This group has been quiet for years due to the number of spammers/adverts
etc.

I think what you're looking for is made by Bespaq. I have some of the
Chinoisorie pieces for sale on my website. The page that the pieces are on
is:

It has been less than a year since there was a flurry of messages on
here. Last fall there was an extended period of dialogue, but all seem
to have left for greener pastures. Seems that everybody either
already knows how to do everything, doesn't care to ask, or would
rather just pay for it or for having it done.

I used to post "How To" articles on here, but got virtually no
response, good or bad, so gave it up as a waste of time, after a
while.

The number of spammers is actually miniscule compared to other
newsgroups, and the individual advertisers are usually a one-off deal
that are handled through email on a one-on-one basis. I think people
are just spending more time on web sites and chat rooms and the like
to get the instant gratification. Now we've gone from "nobody writes
letters anymore" to "nobody writes on the newsgroups anymore."

There are many Yahoo groups devoted to minis, one has about 2000 members.
There's another group called Small Stuff which started a long, long time ago
and that is a large group. These groups offer digests of daily posts and
there's lots of questions and answers and lots of info.

Newsgroups are difficult for some people to get the hang of using and if
they don't hide their email addy's they will get a lot of spam. I know, I
had to abandon an email addy of mine that I used when I joined this group a
lot of years ago. And then there are the trouble making trollers, something
that seems to be rampant in newsgroups. I don't go into the computer
newsgroups anymore because of them.

I guess the answer to why there's so few posts in this group is that there
are so many other options available.

Personally I haven't found a forum for mini's that I particularly like. Ummh,
actually that's not quite true - I used to use the one on the Dolls House
World site but that has been removed.

I will continue to visit here as it is obvious that people read it even if
they don't post (a bit like me really).

Also, I have nowhere to do my *dollshousing* ATM. My workshop was the
conservatory attached to the kitchen. This is being pulled down for a
kitchen extension. My new workshop will be in a new shed in the garden. It
all seems to be taking too long.

Sheds aren't just for the boys. This will be mine, all mine.

Thanks so much! These pieces look like what I've been looking for. The
console looks very much like the dining room set I used to have.
