Default ring cleaner problem

My friend dunked a .925 silver pin into a jewelry cleaning fluid
and it came out with a gold colored surface. She said it was a new
bottle of the stuff, but that it had never happened before with the same
type of fluid.

Has anyone heard of this happening before? Anyone have an explanation
for this phenomenon?

Thanks.
Gail F.
