DH's bachelor party consisted of his two
brothers and one of them's father-in-law.
The four of them went to New Mexico to get
some good fly fishing. No gifts, but the
one who was the best man did give DH a free
plane ticket to get there.

Well, as this thread illustrates, customs vary from place to place. Even
so, I've never heard of gifts given at the bachelor party. In our
circles it is usually a nice event hosted by the groomsmen. The guests
are the groom, the male relatives, and some close male friends. For DS2
the guys had a cook out supper of hot dogs, salads, etc. at a beach,
then played Frisbee and so on. The age range was teen through all the
uncles and dads. No wild drinking, though there may have been some beer
on hand. Certainly no strippers and trashy dancing. Just some family fun.

We have our first family wedding coming up and DS is invited to my
nephew's
bachelor party. Is he expected to bring a gift? It just occurred to me
today that could be a possibility and he would be embarrassed if it
were the
norm and he didn't bring one. Thanks for your advice!

and we (as in 'back home'! ) don't have bachelor or bachelorette
parties. I think the first time I heard about them was when I saw that
movie with Tom Hanks....

Well today is the bachelor party. And it's iffy as to whether DS is
attending. He seems to be coming down with another ear infection. They
were both plugged up a couple weeks ago, one ruptured and the other one
seemed to be getting better. Then today I get an email from him that the
second one is acting up again. He had a follow up appointment after meds
for the first incident that he cancelled because it was better. This kid
will be 25 in a month, and trying to get him to take care of his business is
a PITA! He thinks that because his dad is a doc, he shouldn't have to
bother making appointments, etc. and waiting. Sheesh.
