Recommendations for books on appliqué?
Hi All,
I'd like to get a book on appliqué, one that gives a good overview and describes all the various techniques. What are your recommendations, ladies and gents? Thanks! Michelle in NV |

Recommendations for books on appliqué?
There are several here but the most thorough is Appliqué Made Easy. It is a
Rodale Press book and Karen Costello Soltys is the editor. The book covers machine, hand, stained glass, Templar, freezer paper, vines, folk art, dimensional, reverse and cutwork. Margaret Docherty's Little Brown Bird is exquisite; Becky Goldsmith's Covered with Love is charming. I don't know that any of the books ever mention it, but your appliqué can stand or fall on your choice of fabric. Some are so loosely woven that you will have a fight at every stitch. Some are simply too stiff to cooperate. I'm feeling a bit stiff and uncooperative myself this morning. Thanks Polly! The Applique Made Easy sounds like it might give me a
good place to start until I figure out what techniques I prefer. I've written down all of your recommendations though. Might not be able to choose just one! :-) Thanks for the tip about fabric choice. That makes sense. I have another book to add to your choices. Appliqué - The Basics & Beyond,
by Janet Pittman. It also covers all the different techniques & has really good pictures for each step. I know that Piece O'Cake also has a DVD on appliqué. I don't remember what it is called, but I would think that would be helpful too. Pauline Northern California "Michelle C" wrote in message ... Julia in MN wrote: Hand or machine or both? just a guess but surely you can find free online links with every possible
technique explained and with pix. save those files/pages and just start doing it. not rocket science. soon enough you'll realize that different ways work best for different projects/pieces. just do it. j.
