Is it possible to get a nice deep red at a cone like 01 or above? I have
tried but it isnt really working.

At that low of firing you should be able to get any color you like. Have
you thought of using underglazes?

Check into the cerdec stains. They're expensive but give bright reds even at
high stoneware temperatures.
