Default Irons, again...Old Singer

I wonder whether it is supposed to get that hot or has gone haywire?
If it might have gone haywire it might need retired. It is probably
guzzling up a lot of energy too. That might be something to think
about. I was too young to iron in the 50's though so have no practical
experience there. ; )

I have an old Singer iron that's in great condition. Only problem
is that it's gets to hot! Burnt my ironing board cover and luckily
not my quilt peice. Anyone else have this kind of trouble with
the really old irons? I really like it cuz it nice and small and I like
the weight....but if it's going to burn everything, but good is it?
And how did they use it in them old days of the '50's???

Default Irons, again...

I had iron trouble in early January, I lost my 15 y.o. Black & Decker,
we had an emergency (company coming) clean-up/straighten-up session
and when the company left, and I wanted to sew again, the iron was
nowhere!

I finally broke down and bought another iron, Westinghouse at Target,
$6.99! It heats almost instantly, very light weight, see through water
tank, has a light on when it is heating, and has a teflon sole plate.

I'm happy, and I know that the other iron will show up eventually,
it's not the first iron that I have lost, and I know that that other
lost iron is in the basement, in a box, somewhere, the victim of a
rushed move! I've never lost the Ironing board.

Today I bought a new iron to replace the 1 month-old one that
malfunctioned. My new iron is the Westinghouse Thermocolor - What
fun! When you first plug it in the water tank glows blue, then it
changes to green, purple, then red as it warms up to the hottest
setting. I think I finally found a perfect iron for me. This iron is
not for sissies, it is a big heavy iron and gets even heavier when you
fill up the enormous water tank. And, compared to my other irons this
one gets very hot for 1400 watts. Though there is only 2 steam
settings (high and low) the lower one seems to do just fine. The only
complaint I have so far is the filling hole in the watertank should
have a stopper in it - it will splash out a bit when completely full
and I'm in a hurry LOL Fingers crossed that this one will last a
looooong time!

Default Irons, again... It's Here Already!

Hard to believe it's not even a week since I bought the original iron,
and I already have the backup one in stock - it came yesterday. I
plugged it in last night to make sure it works, cycled it through the
four colors it got hot and all appears well. Did anybody else get
theirs yet? I'm so anxious to hear your comments!

I just bought one, too (from EBay)!

Gloworm in Dayton (back after a long time -- couldn't get on here for
a long time for some reason, but finally figured a way around the
problem (I think -- we'll see if this shows up).

According to the tracking info for my iron, it left Boise yesterday
evening - so I should get it today. Can't wait to see and use my new
'technicolor' iron!

I wasn't going to get on this bandwagon but yesterday, while at Longs Drugs
with my DD (an employee), I spotted one on the shelf. After looking at it
and seeing all the features, I decided to get one. With her discount it
probably cost me the same as what I would have spent buying online.....a
good deal!

Can't wait to try it out!!!

I ordered mine the first day they were discussed here. Came today.
Now instead of watching lousy TV, we can sit and watch the pretty
colors change. The price was marked even lower than the first time I
looked. Postage was almost as much as the cost of the iron, but they
used Fed. Ex. and it came with no damage. I am pleased with the
price, hope it works as well as it should.
