Horse Hair (Pottery) Source?
I'm interested in trying some horse hair pottery during an upcoming raku
firing. Problem.... I don't have a horse any more and the one friend that I know of who has a horse with PERFECT mane and tail hair for this would KILL ME if she came to her barn one day and found clumps missing from the LONG flowing locks of her solid black prized Fresian stallion. Any suggestions on where I can get some horse hair? I've looked online and the only thing that I find is horse hair for violin/viola/cello bows - and it's far more than I need and very expensive. |

How narrow minded of her! Some folks just don't get it that art requires sacrifice. Any suggestions on where I can get some horse hair? Try he http://tinyurl.com/5kgcd or he http://tinyurl.com/5vefy (this one's kind of spendy in my opinion) or even he http://www.tandyleather.com/ The Google search engine is your friend. Go to Google.com and try it for yourself. It's amazing what kind of stuff you can find. (it's also amazing, and more than a little bizarre what other uses people find to put horse hair to and that google will find for you) Please let us know how it goes. -- Spunky the Tuna |

Tina,
How soon do you need it? I have a friend that will save it for me if I ask - I don't mind sharing. I can mail you a small package of it to try. I have NEVER seen a curried horse that did not give up some hair. Ask you
friend for some or volunteer to do the grooming at a local stable. "Tina P" wrote in message ink.net... I'm interested in trying some horse hair pottery during an upcoming raku firing. Problem.... Have you ever noticed how potters seem to be big on food (Octoberfest
pottery festival comes to mind..... (I once accidentally posted a Koi question that was meant to go to pond.rec here..... you can imagine the heart palpitations the poor folks in rec.pond had with all the ideas for how to cook a koi in a kiln.....) Tina, Around here (Mid france), fences are sometimes barbed wire, not a nice material but it does seem to rip out horse tail hail quite nicely, when they rub up against it. I collected a fair bit this way. Hedges, trees etc in the field seem to do the same. All the best, Alistair. |

Yeah well.... this thread also mentions "curried horse" (as opposed to
currying a horse for the hair) so I'm sure that would amount to some flaming as well in the horse NGs! Tastes like chicken.... LOL. Tina "W_D_Great_Divider" wrote in message .. .
