Default yarn donations?

Hi Kelly,

There are bound to be some charity groups that have some donated yarn to
work with. Some of our members have a hard time affording yarn but still
want to make things for us, so we have bins of yarn for them. Our yarns come
from people in our area that know about our charity and donate yarn.
Sometimes someone in the family (aunt, grandmother) dies and they clean out
the house and give any yarn to us. Salvation Army or Goodwill sometimes have
donations given to them and they resell it in their stores for about $3.00 -
$5.00 a large bag. You can also try yard sales, church sales, PSA's (Public
Service Announcements) in your local newspapers and putting out the word
with friends and family. Hope this helps.

Loads of hugs,
Melody

I;m sure that many of you knit or crochet for charities. Do you get your
yarn yourselves or get it donated? If it is donated, how do you get it?
I would love to crochet baby blankets for local charities, but I can't
afford to.
Any ideas?

TIA
Kelly

My Project Linus will take donations of yarn and distribute the yarn
to people who are willing to knit and crochet afghans for them. You
might want to check www.projectlinus.com for a chapter near you.

When I've knitted for charities in the past, it's been knitting items for
sale in a charity shop. They get yarn donated, but can make more money
selling knitted items.

That's probably not much help if you have a specific charity in mind,
though.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I'm going to see what I can find.
