Default a couple of ?

I have been here several years and have two questions. What do the numbers
next to the list of posts stand for? I miss getting postings (I can tell when
someone answers a post I did not see) and several of my own posts show up
several days late...can anyone tell me why? I guess that is three questions.
I enjoy reading the posts...most of the time...and have found out some super
sites on the computer. Stitchers, you have vastly increased both my knowledge
(a good thing) and my stash (even better). Thank you, Boo

Those numbers could refer to the size of the post -- number of lines -- if it's
a large message and you're on a slow connection or pay by the hour/minute, you
might think twice about downloading the full message.

In lay person's terms, news servers pass packets of messages globally via a
network of linked systems. Sometimes those servers or the network 'burp'
causing messages not to appear on some systems.

If you already know all this I apologize, but
I cannot think what numbers you mean other than the numbers under 'number'
which fall opposite to the thread names under 'subject'. It refers to the
number of unread posts in the thread. When you read a post, it no longer shows
unless you hit the button that says 'mark unread' while highlighting that
thread. However, the responses to the thread will continue to show on your
screen until you close out of the newsgroup.

Move through the thread by hitting the 'next message button'. Move from thread
to thread by hitting the 'next subject button.
If you want to read all the responses to a particular thread, exit the
newsgroup, and select 'List All'. Then re-enter the group.
