Default How much do you buy?

A local quilt shop is having a retirement sale and everything is half
off. Much is gone, but I found some Hoffmans that I liked, but was at
a loss as to how much to buy. I had budgeted $100 for this sale and
decided to buy enough of 3 nice fabrics to do quilt borders or backs.
I ended up with 6 yards each of three very nice fabrics. It seemed too
good a sale to just buy a yard of each.

If it's a good sale, 3 yards. That way I can use it for backs or borders
that don't have to be pieced.

"Budgeted" what is this word you talk about?...."budgeted"?
Never heared of it....LOL

When I first started to quilt, I asked one of the ladies at the Fabricland
store how much to buy when you dont know what you'll be using it for...and
she said "Oh, a minimum of ten yards."...with a big smile on her face of
course. She is a real joker. She likes to tease me when I go in...."Is
this a ten yeard cut, Christina?"

I tend to buy 2-3 yards of a really nice fabric..but have been known to buy
the whole bolt if there is juat a bit left on the bolt when I take my 2-3
yards. Cant leave a wee piece of really nice or on sale fabric sitting
there all lonely, right?

So what's wrong with 10 yards? BTDT and probably will do it again.

Wow, you have a budget? So did my husband until he married me D. lol -
When fabric is on sale and I mean a good sale, that's when I look for
backing. So I'll buy accordingly. It can be anywhere from 3 to 8 yards.
If it's a "regular sale", I'll buy according to what I think the fabric will
be used for.

Yep - me too.

If the price is right - three yards for borders, five yards for backing,
10-12 yards for backgrounds for applique. Stash building is one yard just
for colors and patterns.
