Fabric Bowl Question
Not wanting to spend any more $ this month (Paducah trip planned), I was
wondering if a fabric bowl could be successfully made using a heavy duty regular Pellon type product? joan joan o'reilly http://members.aol.com/Joan8904/index.html |

FWIW, I think it might just work.
Maybe make it not very large; maybe make the edges smaller in proportion to the bottom; maybe just go ahead and give it a try and report back? First I guess you need to define "successfully" :-) -- Anne in CA "It's not having what you want; it's wanting what you've got." -- Sheryl Crow http://home.covad.net/~arudolph/annes.htm Joan8904 wrote: Not wanting to spend any more $ this month (Paducah trip planned), I was wondering if a fabric bowl could be successfully made using a heavy duty regular Pellon type product? joan joan o'reilly http://members.aol.com/Joan8904/index.html remove NOSPAM to reply |

i checked out allthe pix and sites bout these fabric bowls too.
if i'm right, they are basically fabric in the right amount with the right cutting/stitching to hold enough shape to be used as a bowl for various things to be displayed/kept in. with quilts, more stitching close together, like stippling, makes them stiff and should make a good sturdy bowl. hey but i've not try'd it yet so someone help me out here. is there any waterproofing that is done with this bowl? would layers of fuse interfacing stiffen it even more? how bout binding on them? just curious, they really are so cute. jeanne -- http://community.webshots.com/user/nzlstar real reply is san-fran at ihug dot co dot nz wrote in message ... Hi Joan,
I've made two bowls with Timtex. It is thicker and stiffer than the Pellon. Maybe you could try fusing two layers of the Pellon together and see if that is stiff enough for the bowl to hold it's shape. -- Lisa Caryl http://www.picturetrails.com/quiltygurl remove the obvious to reply "Joan8904" wrote in message ... Has anyone found the book in stock yet?? I'm hoping they are printed and
delivered by the time I get to Paducah. I bought some Timtex today in anticipation...I figured that when the books come in, the Timtex will be scarce. -- Kathyl remove "nospam-" before mchsi http://community.webshots.com/user/kathylquiltz "Lisa Caryl" wrote in message ... I heard a description of her technique from a creative lady in Denmark who
makes all kinds of 3-D fabric objects (wastebaskets, fruit bowls, plant containers etc.). After stitching it all together -and she uses either stiffish interfacing or batting- she paints the whole thing inside and out with several layers of that clear acrylic stuff used to thin acrylic paints. Gives the fabric a slightly leather-like surface and quite a bit of body, as well as protecting against some stains. Roberta in D "Joan8904" wrote in message ... Actually I did read somewhere that you could fuse several layers of a
lighterweight fusible to get the required stiffness for the bowl. I have made 2 of them - the square one and the round one. The last one was done in sunflower prints for the inside and a moss-green batik on the outside .........for my daughter who loves sunflowers. It came out really nice. ~Elaine in WNY "Lisa Caryl" wrote in message ... Hi Joan, I've made two bowls with Timtex. It is thicker and stiffer than the Pellon. Oh, naughty Canada...naughty...truly must be the 'best kept secret' -
another US location annexed and our government didn't inform the people. Sorry, Jo, that location isn't in Canada, yet..
