Fabric shops in Alaska
Hi List, I was wondering if anyone know of shops in Juneau, Ketchakan,
Skagway, Sitka, or Anchorage. While he goes fishing I will go hunting! :-) Leaving Wednesday. yippeeee -- Sugar & Spice Quilts by Linda E http://community.webshots.com/user/frame242 |

It is in the Airport shopping mall, which is not far from the Nugget mall, but cleverly is *not* at the airport. It is not visible from the road, you sort of have to know where it is. Ask the locals how to get to the Airport shopping mall, or try Google with the name and address, or get a taxi there from the airport, etc. Nice folks, and who knows, maybe they will have a sale when you're there. Incidentally, there is a book out called "Quilts of Alaska" which is put together by Gastineau Channel Historical Society and I met the editor, Alma Harris when I was in the state archive doing research and she was doing research as well. I happened to get the last (and signed!) copy in Juneau when I was there... but maybe there will more when you're in Alaska. Try Hearthside bookstore in the Nugget mall or Rainy Day books on Seward street downtown. The quilt on the cover is made of mallard duck skins - this book has all sorts of quilts in it and is very interesting! -- Jo in Scotland |

I can't remember the name. Have you tried putting "fabric shop Alaska" into a search engine? I did that for LA and stumbled upon a shop locator that listed 5 pages of shop names, address and phone numbers. Very hand. Mat still hasn't purchased fabric for me yet though. -- Jo in Scotland |

There was (and still might be) a quilt shop/embroidery shop in Sitka right
across from the Russian Orthodox cathedral downtown. There use to be a shop in Ketchikan,i'll haeve to look it up and see if I can find the name and if it's still there. Enjoy. sitka is my idea of Paradise. don't forget to take time to walk through Totem Park. I am turning green with envy. susan |
