"Lucille" wrote You're right--I was referring to the Arab nations. Unless I'm misreading Sheena's note she stated that the Palestinians aren't being educated by Israel. Sheena wrote: "Well it is quite evident on news casts when you see the latest school (usually funded, built and supplied with money from countries like Sweden, Canada, Finland) being raised to the ground by a gunship that not much education is going to be done there!" I don't interpret that the same way you do. To me all it meant was that school buildings have been demolished, thus precluding any classes being held there. You would think that with all that land they could find a place for them to live other than a tiny, overcrowded country but instead they use them. I suppose that's one way to look at it. But why is it so overcrowded? Perhaps if millions of people didn't have the right to move there, automatically, by virtue of their faith, it wouldn't be such a problem. And I'm not just thinking of the conflict. I also thinking of resources, like water, especially water............. Maybe someone with more knowledge than I can tell me--Do these people really care whether the piece of ground they live on, and raise their families on, is on one side of the border or the other? I suspect that's a very individual thing. I'm not at all attached to the piece of land from which my original clan was evicted three hundred years ago, but I have time on my side! The state of Israel was created within living memory and I am very sure that many people still want to go back to their particular village or piece of land - "home", as they see it. Maybe that will change as the generations pass. E |

"Lucille" wrote in message et... Thanks for a good explanation of why I'm so exasperated. And you're right, why would I be insulted if someone called me intelligent and talented. Lucille "Dr. Brat" wrote in message ... Pat Porter wrote: I still can see nothing whatsoever insulting - not even a little bit, in what I said. Where was a backward compliment in it? They ARE usually high achievers - possibly because they`ve had so much to contend with. As have the Scots. What on earth is insulting about that? Actually, it's a generalization about both groups. There were and are many poor Scots, just as there were and are many poor Jews. In particular, the Jews of Central and Eastern Europe were *not* generally high achievers. They were herded into ghettos long before Hitler where many suffered miserable existences and "achieved" little or nothing by world standards. They're a people like any other with a rich and varied history, like any other. I don't find your statement insulting but I do find it highly oversimplified, and perhaps that's Lucille's problem with it. i do not tell you how to run your life , stop playing with mine ,, thank you .. What a raving hypocrite you are, Mirjam! You come here and tell us how to run our lives all the time. That's what your original post was about: telling us what we should care about and what we should post about. If you tried for once being a little less critical of others on this group, you might find them less critical of you. But no. Just like your government, you're too busy defending your precious self to give change a chance to happen. "Dr. Brat" wrote It's a fact? Can you provide me with a context and the indices that have shown this to be a fact? Are you talking in the UK, in the US, in the world in general? Who conducted the tests? What are the measures involved? What is the domain of this norm to which you refer? Without that information, it's still a generalization, despite your protests to the contrary. Elizabeth -- Look out, Elizabeth, if you dare to suggest that there`s no proof of the fact that "God`s chosen race" aren`t in great numbers in the upper echelons of medicine, business, etc., you`ll be getting accused of being anti-semitic too! One thing`s for sure, in this discussion you just can`t win! LOL! Like I believe I said, it`s just observation over the years. Or of course, there`s always the possibility that if they aren`t as numerous as appears, they may just be the ones that shout the loudest! Pat P. |

You posted here in a ranting, attacking mood the essence of which was how dare we not say anything about the loss of lives in your country after a recent bomb attack. You didn't "ask" for some kind words. You demanded them and accused us of having double standards, being hypocritcal, etc. etc. because nobody expressed themselves over this recent attack. You further went on to accuse us of not caring because we said nothing. You assumed a lot about quite a few of us. Assumptions are what get people into trouble. It is you personally who makes it difficult for us to discuss these attacks and the warring situation in Israel and Palastine. We do not get enlightened by you, we get scolded - or worse. Don't talk to me about other newsgroups you belong to. I've heard a bit about that myself from others who frequent them. Besides which, that is a meaningless argument. It isn't anything you do or don't do elsewhere. It is what is going on here that matters. You make it impossible to have civil discourse when it comes to many topics of discussion here at RCTN. For me, it started with your attack on Marilyn Levitt-Imbloom. And secondly when you accused me of being anti-semetic after I posted about living with the most loving and caring Jewish family that I think fondly of to this day. They literally rescued me and helped form and mold my spirit for the better. I've had enough of your ranting, your scolding, your assumptions, and your accusations, Mirjam. Dianne |
