Default NYCO Update

Folks I just need to let off some steam.

At Last!!!!
I have finished cutting out the pattern pieces for my 3pce suit.(skirt,
Trousers & Jacket).
What on earth possessed me into thinking just because I can Knit meant I
could sew!!
Fortunately, my main fabric and lining material did not seem to have a right
or wrong side. I figured out which side of the interfacing was the wrong
side (it stuck to my foot!!). I now think I have cut one of the waistbands
the wrong way round. Tough, I am not doing it again. It's not so easy to
"frog" material. I'll adjust it as I sew.

Next Stage:
Learning how to use the Sewing Machine - I have enough scrap material!!!

There are 2 things that are keeping me going:
I pledged myself to this NYCO project (and I don't want to wimp out);
My Husband says "Why don't you just give up" (Red Rag to a Bull syndrome)

Yay!

You can sew. Just remember your first attempts at knitting...

Fortunately, my main fabric and lining material did not seem to have a right
or wrong side.

Always a big help!

I figured out which side of the interfacing was the wrong
side (it stuck to my foot!!). I now think I have cut one of the waistbands
the wrong way round. Tough, I am not doing it again. It's not so easy to
"frog" material. I'll adjust it as I sew.

Material doesn't frog, but stitches in it do. It's even called ripping.

Good thinking there. Make some cloth bags to put UFOs in, I mean, WIPs of
course. ;-)

There are 2 things that are keeping me going:

Advice: make sure the sewing machine pedal is firmly wedged so it doesn't
skate away from you. Keep a small wastebasket handy to put scraps of
thread into immediately, don't just fling them to be cleaned up later.
Watch the thread tension, especially on the underneath where you don't
see it until it snarls and the thread breaks. It's almost never too
tight but it's usually okay; and it will snarl if it's too loose.
Have a good bright light on your work area. Remember to take a break
every so often.

And remember: it's only cloth.

Kari,
This IS the place to let off steam and *vent* and rant... I laughed at the
Red Flag to a Bull Syndrome.... I'm the same way... tell me I can't, or I
should give up, and I'm even MORE determined.
You WILL perservere!
Hugs,

Hi Kari,

I'm glad it's you and not me. I don't like to sew and I'm not ashamed to admit
it. Will we see a picture of your lovely outfit when you get it done?

Hugs,

Nora

Hi All
Thanks for listening & cheering me on.

Tamar,
Thanks for the Sewing Machine advice. I have printed it out to stick on
the wall where I shall be working.

Certain factors need to be in place for me to send a photo...
1) I need to get a camera;
2) I need to still have access to the Internet (may not have it in rural
Spain)
3) We all need to be living on Planet Earth (and not colonising other Solar
Systems); did NYCO say we had to FINISH this year or just START.

KARI,you CAN do it,you WILL do it!!!
Lots of temper helps!
I agree with all Tamars' advices,
and will add one mo
BE ALONE when sewing!!!
At last it will end up OK!
(Mine doesn't always end up exactly what I planned, but nobody else
but me knows! If I don't tell. And I do. Too often!LOL!
Good luck!
AUD ;-))
