I'm so sorry that you have had problems with other yahoo! groups and that
you have a hard time trusting listmoms.

You haven't offended me - but I do NOT like "listmoms" in any way shape or
form. Like Slinky Toy I can be quite outspoken, and have in the past
"offended" a listOWNER who promptly removed me from the group with NO
warning. Too much power in the hands of some people. BTW, that listowner
happens to have an internet based business, and she happens to have a
product I want to buy. But there is no way on God's green earth I will buy
it from her, so she's lost some business. I will be ordering the product
from England, rather than order from her. Her loss.

I prefer unmoderated groups, and for the one Yahoo group I belong to -
there is no listowner - that person disappeared into the wild blue yonder
some time ago, so no one on that group has the power to dump people.

I didn't start 'rctyhome' on yahoo to 'take away' from the original Usenet
group but rather to have a place where it's safe for everyone to share
information, find links to patterns, share birthdays, anniversaries and
other things that are mentioned right here on the Usenet group!

As mentioned by other people, we have all managed to find a way to do all
the sharing you mentioned. Some of us post links to our own photo albums,
Martin keeps an album for those who can't; and as you may have noticed, we
have a person who keeps track of birthdays and anniversaries, etc.

I'm sorry if I've offended you in some way, I meant no harm.

As I said, I'm not offended, and you certainly haven't harmed me. Good luck
on your project, and be sure to keep dropping in here.

I think what Melody is trying to do is just to have, if anything a RCTY home
page...as the USENET is now, we aren't able to easily share photos of our
finished works and stuff unless we have a website of our own. Starting a
Yahoo group would give us a place to post things like that for those who
don't have the venue to ordinarily do so.

This might be a cool idea...it's free, afterall. We can still post on
USENET.

Hi everyone,

I'm coming out of lurkdom (hopefully not to get spammed!!) to let you

all
know that I've started a yahoo group for RCTY members. It will have a
listing of member email addy's, a Calendar for birthdays and other

places
to add recipes, links to patterns and more.

I'll be sending all of you an invitation to the group - you can't get

in
without one, that will keep spammers out and we will be relatively

safe
online.

Well I guess since I have a phoney e-mail address that I use for Usenet,

I
won't be getting an invite. But that's okay, since I intend to stay

with
this group right here. Yahoo groups aren't all that great either.... I
belong to a knitting group there, and while the people are great, I get

sick
and tired of all the advertisements that one has to put up with. So -

ads
on Yahoo, or spam on Usenet.... what's a girl to do???

Then again, if you ever wondered what happened to the machine knitting news
group, it was a mail group. Once people got involved in those, they didn't
have time for the newsgroup and it fizzled. Anytime anyone new posted a
question to the news group, they were immediately directed to the mail
group on the basis that there were more people there to answer and it's
just ever so much more private and safe. Seems that's the only purpose the
news group serves any more, though now it seems to be done as a private
reply rather than publicly on the group.

The privacy issues sound reasonable to me...I would agree and actually
sympathize with some of your stories!

I'm having trouble with my hosting company right now *cough*GLOBAT*cough*,
but once I get things straightened out, would any of you guys be interested
in pooling knowledge and expertise to get just a regular, no posting,
USENET-directing homepage up for RCTY that will allow USENET users to post
pictures and keep an online archive of free patterns and educational links?
What are your thoughts on this alternative?

I'm a web developer by trade, so I will volunteer my services with designing
and implementing the site. If any of you programmers would like to pitch in
and make some snazzy posting scripts, or make modifications to existing
open-source scripts, I'll be very greatful for your help!

This is probably not a necessary project, since RCTY seems to be thriving
pretty well on its own, but it might be kind of fun to work on...kind of
like a community garden. hehehe

Why can't we just continue doing what we are currently doing. If you
want your own web site not news group or yahoo group where items can be
collected fine but please NO more groups. I understand what you are
trying to do but trying to get more places to check is going to force
me away from even this group which I enjoy.

I am sorry to complain but with working full time it's difficult to
even keep up with this group.
