If you're moving in the winter, yeah they probably should at least have
a light blanket if they already have any kind of a winter coat. If you
move in the summer, their bodies will adjust as the temps change.

Thanks for the info, ladies! The OTTB is 5 and the Arab is 18. The TB, 'Miles',
was a rescue and didn't really have enough time before winter hit to develop a
good coat, so I've babied him and give him a lot of hay in his comfy stall at
night to keep him busy and warm, and his coat is coming right along. He's
really sensitive so I try to be mindful. The arab has a great winter coat,
thankfully. The tip about walking them dry if wet under the pad is a good one,
thanks for reminding me. We have only ridden a couple of times since it's been
so cold. Thanks again!

You're welcome! I'm hoping to be able to ride mine again next summer.
Last winter she lost a *lot* of weight, which you couldn't really see
until she shed out. Turned out she had some teeth problems I hadn't
noticed, since DD's been the one riding her the last few years. I gave
her a year off from any real exercise and have been supplementing her
feed since then. She's had a lot of pep this winter (actually
*galloping* when called for supper!), so I think things are looking up!
