Default Please explain me

I do the 'head hole' like this:

1. Knit for example 27 stitches.

2. Bind off next 18 stitches at one time.

3. Knit the rest of the stitches.

Now I afraid that is not the way to do it. Could someone
explain STEP BY STEP how do you do it? When I say step by
step, I mean in a way I explained it above.

Pirjo,
Strangely enough, you do not bind off for the head hole. You bind off the
shoulders, and put the stitches for the head hole on a stitch holder until
you get the other side of the sweater done. SO you would do this:

1. Cast off 27 stitches.
2. Knit the next 18 stitches and put them on a holder.
3. Cast off remaining 27 stitches.

Then, when you do the other half of the sweater, you do the same thing, so
that you will have 54 stitches. Sew up one shoulder seam. With the right
side facing, knit the 54 stitches onto one needle. Work a few rows in rib
and bind off VERRRRRYY loosely. This gives a nice stretch to go over the
head.

good morning PIRJO
please make a rough sketch of your body
now look at your self , we learned that you head is 1/3 of your front
, and each shoulder is a another 1/3 .
thus if you knitted 60 st for your front , you will have to decrease
20 for the Hole ,, leave 20 on each side for the shoulder.
But shoulders are a bit diagonal compared to floor line , they slope
upwards from end of hand to your neck, thus we don`t want to decresae
this stiches at once , but gradually ..
so now let`s go back to our 60 st front of sweater,
ps how do you want you opening to be ,,???
mirjam
