I live near Universal. The commercials give me the creeps, but I am an
admitted wimp. I can't even imagine wanting to go to that place near Halloween. Ick. Good luck with getting any response on the commercials being objectionable. I imagine Universal is given a wide berth on stuff like this, since they bring in so much money for the local economy. Jennifer in Florida "Nurse Ratched" wrote in message ... Royce,
I did a google in groups and found that blueberry has posted to, and seems to be a troll in, a number of newsgroups. S/he has trolled at the weigh****chers group, many alt.religion groups, several pagan groups, and now here. I don't know who the "us" that blueberry person was referring to, but if s/he meant Wiccans, I'd like explain a little. Halloween, or Samhain, is one of the primary high holy days for Wiccans. It is the time of year to honor, appreciate and remember the other side of the wheel of life. Many other religions also celebrate some sort of a day where you honor your beloved dead. What we (Wiccans) do *not* do is advocate helping anyone to join the dead in any untimely manner the way the ads Nurse Ratched mentioned seem to do. Unfortunately, Samhain has gone the way of the Christians' Christmas -- way too commercial and the original religious meanings are all jumbled up with the perceptions of people who do not understand nor practice the original way of remembering the holiday. Not to be too disrespectful, but imagine some day in the future when Ramadan is turned into a weight-loss festival. Sorry that this has sort of turned into another rant. I guess my buttons got pushed on this one. I agree with Nurse and think this sort of horror needs to be fought by all life affirming people. -- Anne in CA "Don't miss the diamonds along the way; every road has led us here today." -- Sheryl Crow http://home.covad.net/~arudolph/annes.htm Royce wrote: Hey everyone, here's a copy of a response to this thread that was sent to me privately. i dont classify 'electrocution' as a fun thing or amusing in any way. geeeeeez. good question, wendy, why only royce was singled out? i hope you didnt reply to her? it? its a worry. uh oh, hang on, i just went and looked at the return addy on that email royce got. its from dslextreme. last year i was getting heaps from that isp, each one had a virus attached somehow. just delete any you get, do not reply else shows that its a real addy. i'd also suggest despamming your addy on here asap if not before, royce. sounds like that email was just a tester to see if it was a real email addy. jeanne "frood" wrote... | No, I have not recieved anything of the sort. u'r probably right about the money they bring in.
shame no one thinks about the money it costs society from the copy cat'rs who 'off' themselves just 'playing' with the suggestion they are giving out. it is totally disgusting they are allowed to get away with that. jeanne "JS" wrote... | I live near Universal. Did any of you who agreed with Nurse get this also?
Royce I agreed with myself and didn't get it. Besides, I'm not objecting to the holiday--I'm objecting to using a theme of snuff films to promote it. I would think that someone who views the holiday as a religious observance (or something like one), as Wiccans do, would share that viewpoint not object to it. Here is the reply I got from Universal. Apparently, their view is, as long as
the characters are fictional it's OK.....?????? Thank you for visiting Universal Orlando Online. Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando is far more intense than the typical theme park Halloween event. We communicate the intense nature of our event to our guests by using characters such as The Director so that they can make informed decisions about whether or not this event is for them. He is a fictional character that we bring to life and - like Halloween Horror Nights itself - he's not tied to real world people or events. From Rock the Universe to Mardi Gras to Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Orlando offers a wide range of events for a wide range of tastes and demographics. We use our advertising to make sure people understand that. We always appreciate feedback from our guests and we will use the information in our ongoing event planning and promotional efforts. Please keep watching us here at http://www.universalorlando.com, as we will have many exciting and new developments in the next few months. You know, that really sounds like a canned response. Makes me wonder
how many people object to the "attractions" that night in general. Nurse Ratched wrote: Here is the reply I got from Universal.
