I have mine in one of those open file crates ($6.00 I think at Office Max)
in small expanding folders. Also I have some of the charts with fabric and
beads in those big plastic Ziploc bags which are then filed in the file
crate. Mine are not in any particular order other than "charts I have
stitched" and "charts I have not stitched". Also, in the file crate I have
a notebook with charts clipped from magazines and then put in page
protectors. For all of my various magazines (Piecework, Fine Lines,
Interweave Knits, etc.) I have magazine holders. I recently got another
file crate to store my bags of yarns for future knitting projects.

I think my collection (Yes, I plan to stitch each and everyone of
them-someday...) is getting out of hand. Just wanted some imput from folks
here on how to organize this stuff.

I have the File 'N Go plastic file boxes that I got from WalMart and I
store them in hanging files in there. I have several boxes with one for
miscellaneous and one for specific designers. Kits are just thrown in a
drawer in a dresser that is specifically for cross stitch items, fabric, Q
snaps, etc. Then there are the piles in one basket that are ones in
progress and then the basket with those I want to do and that have been
kitted up. Not very organized. LOL.

I have a 4 drawer file cabinet for my patterns, booklets and charts; plastic
shoe boxes for each specialty thread; cardboard magazine boxes for my
magazines; 86 quart plastic boxes with lids for my kitted materials and
charts;bookshelves for my hardback and paper back books; baskets for my odds
and ends like mini drill for twisting cording, different size scissors, thread
heaven, etc.; Floss-a-way bags for my DMC and Anchor in those red and white
checked storage/carrying boxes.

I'm fortunate that I have a special room for my stitching supplies (why do they
seem to spill out into the whole house?) but they really aren't too organized.
In case you're wondering, I've been collecting these things since 1980 so
that's why I have so much, more than I will ever be able to stitch in this
life. My EGA chapter is going to have fun with all these things when I leave
this world!! Meantime I enjoy them every day, either looking through them or
stitching something.

Charts on a bookshelf, major categories organized in magazine files.

Kits in file boxes. Major categories have a box of their own, others are
ranked Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

Fabric flat in plastic drawers from OfficeMax.

Floss in a metal parts cabinet from the hardware store.

How do you store your charts and kits?

Currently have a file storage box (12x15 size) with hanging files inside. I
have them currently separated by an attempt at subject matter, but as my stash
grows, I'm discovering way too much overlap (is this a cat or is it Christmas,
for example) and I'm considering a change. I just don't know what to change to
yet.

Kits, when I simply *must* buy them (meaning, there's no other way to
get the design) are de-kitted. The floss is matched to DMC (if it
isn't already DMC) and the numbers noted on the chart. If the floss
is DMC, it's stored away with the kit's name on the bag. If it's not
DMC floss, it's ... erm...disappeared (yeah, that's a good word for
it! LOL). The "kit" is now a chart. Charts are stored in plastic
magazine files from the office-supply store. There are files for TW,
Miscellaneous (a couple of those), alphabets and borders, botanicals,
animals both fictional and non-fictional, and botanicals (which
category includes seed packets and crate labels). I have a couple of
de-kitted kits that came with Anchor floss; I kept that floss.

Magazines are in cardboard magazine files from the office-supply
store. Ideally, they're by title and date. I'm somewhat behind in
this.

All the stuff I'd like to stitch is listed in an Excel database, along
with pooploads of other information, including what specials, if any,
are required for a given design, what fabric (type, color, and count)
I want to do it on, whether I have the specials, whether I have the
fabric, the design count, and the size required for the fabric (the
design size plus the extra, which for me is 8"[4" + 4"] ). Anything
that has been finished (stitching's done) since I created the database
is in red; if it's finished finished (framed, pillowed/cushioned,
bookmarked, bellpulled, etc), it's in blue.

Right now charts and magazines are in file storage boxes. Kits,
supplies, and odds & ends are in three huge storage tubs. This winter I
hope to start sorting everything. The things I want to keep will get
added to CrossMagic database and I'll probably eliminate some stuff. Maybe.

Occasionally the stash closet if neat. Then it gets funky and everything falls
out. Then I straighten it up again, then it gets funky again. The beat goes
on.

How do you store your charts and kit
What an interesting question and I will be looking for some answers.

I store the charts in file folders according to the type of chart, Christmas,
1700 samplers, landscapes, dogs etc. Each folder is labeled. I then keep the
folders in order in a plastic file box so I can move the entire collection from
place to place. The kits, and I don't have many, I keep in a plastic box with
a list in the box of what is in the box. This works for me. Boo
