Giving credit/obtaining permission to post designs
I recently had a discussion about personal posting guidelines with
another jewelry designer. I've always tended to be very conservative about this. If I use another artist's focal bead in one of my designs, I usually email a picture of my design to the artist and ask her/him if I can post it on WC, or my website. I always give them credit for the bead. The other designer said when she buys a bead, she considers it hers and posts it on a blog or website without permission, but always giving credit to the beadmaker. Opinions? Giving credit/obtaining permission to post designs
As a designer, I'd love to get credit for something I've done. But as a
buyer, I believe I own something when I buy it! However, if I do use a lampworked focal in a design, I do give the maker credit if I know who he/she is, but I don't think I need to get permission from them to do so. -- Karleen Page Member International Jewelry Designers Guild (IJDG) Vibrant Jewels web sto http://www.vibrantjewels.com/jewelry/welcome.htm Vibrant Jewels JustBeads Auctions: http://www.justbeads.com/search/ql.cfm?s=21770 CLICK HERE to join myYahoo Group: Ebay Auctions: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZvibrantjewels "Patti" wrote in message ... Giving credit/obtaining permission to post designs
I'm always happy to get credit, but I don't expect it as a matter of course.
I'm so flattered when I see my name, though! -- Kandice Seeber www.lampwork.net http://coloraddiction.wordpress.com/ http://kseeber.etsy.com "Patti" wrote in message ... When I use something made by somebody whose name I know I tend to not only mention the name but put a link to the website if they have one (e.g. Kalera). But I've never asked "can I use your beads in this?". As I don't make much jewelry at the moment I don't have a lot of occasion to do so ... And cut seed bead hanks apart.) |
