Default Shop hop

Can someone explain what a shop hop is? I got fabric at my LQS yesterday and
they said they just finished one. The line behind me was long so I figured I
could get the scoop here.

Shop Hops are organized by a group of quilt shops in a designated area. The
one I generally attend in NJ uses a "passport" which is a booklet which
needs to be stamped by each shop visited. If all the shops are visited, you
get entered into a grand prize drawing. There are any level of prizes given
depending on the Shop Hop. Each shop also has one pattern piece of a quilt
that they design and make for a raffle. The recent Shop Hop I did also had
the coordinating fabrics to make the quilt. It is usually over a series of
days, generally a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The shops all have
set hours for the Shop Hop period. It's good fun to do with one or several
other quilters! The last NJ one had 12 shops I believe and we also stopped
at one that was not on the list.

A group of shops get together and over the course of 2-4 days sponsor
coordinated sales and activities. Usually there is a quilt pattern that is
divided up that you pick up a portion of at each participating shop. The
idea is to get you to shop at ALL participating shops within the designated
time frame. Often they offer door prizes and other incentives to make it
fun.

Bottom line.... it's a marketing technique that hopefully is fun for the
consumers and entices them to visit LOTS of shops within just a day or two
on the calendar.

Hope that helps!'

PS -- there is an ONLINE SHOP HOP right now -- hop from online quilt shop to
online quilt shop. It's a good way to get to see a BUNCH of various
shops -- see what their specialty is... and maybe win a gift certificate
along the way!.

No affiliation but the site is: www.fabshophop.com
