cutting glass rods?
Hi all,
So I bought a three-drawer rolling cart to keep all my hot glass stuff together; and it turns out some of the glass rods are too long to fit in the drawer, except on an angle, laid across the other rods (which I can't stand 'cause it's not as organized as I'd like g). What tool can I use to cut glass rods? I've got a scoring wheel and running pliers for sheet glass; and mosaic tile nippers. But I don't know if either one would work. Is there some kind of tool to make a score around the rod so it would break fairly evenly, without shattering? TIA, Carla |

But, if you cut them you'll have more leftover ends - of course you can stick the ends back together with the torch too. I have mine in cardboard tubes in a bucket (upright). I don't think that's good for short ends or stringers though. ? Maren HiloBeads: Beads - Beading Supplies - Hand-made Jewelry http://www.hilobeads.com/ Blog at: http://hilobeads.blogspot.com/ |

Hi Carla,
Get some tile nippers (I think that's what they're called.) They have them at Home Depot or any hardware store. -- Jerri www.beadbimbo.com "Carla" wrote in message ... I've got one, I just didn't know if it will cut the glass or shatter it?
Thanks, Carla Beadbimbo wrote: Hi Carla, Get some tile nippers (I think that's what they're called.) They have them at Home Depot or any hardware store. |

I'm not a lampworker, but I'd try a "pipe cutter". It's a little gadget
with a triangular cut to put a (copper, eg) pipe in, with a cutting wheel to score the pipe until you cut through it. For glass you could score it, then snap/break it. Interesting. I'll have to look at one this weekend.
Thanks, Tina! Cheers, Carla Christina Peterson wrote: I'm not a lampworker, but I'd try a "pipe cutter". I have some and they work great. No, they don't shatter it.

A regular glass cutter and two pairs of padded pliers will work too.
Just score the rod on one side, position the pliers on either side of the score and bend. It's not necessary to score all the way around the rod. HTH!!
