Hi Joy,
Try presoaking silk in a dilute solution of synthrapol (no need to rinse before dye) and use distilled water for all dyebaths. Your local hardness/chlorination might have made things more difficult. I tend to use more vinegar than the package calls for, it can't hurt... In addition to the Cushings dyes at Joan Moshimer, there is a thread at the RCTKnitting group about dyeing protein fibres with Kool-Aid...cheaper than the other acid dyes. You might check out another manufacturer: PRO Chemicals. Their website www.prochemical.com lists professional tech support and training courses if you can travel. Finally, if you did like the Jacquard acid dyes, they come in 8 ounce bulk packs from www.fabricstodyefor.com and I have used a few of them with great success. I did notice a lot-to-lot difference with some of the greens, but I was overdyeing wool and wool just sucks up the stuff... I hope this experience does not turn you off acid dyes. There are really good sources on the internet that I found through museum restoration trolling.--Irene Joy Hardie wrote in message . .. Hi Irene, Yes, a small test would seem like a brilliant idea, but, I did one and nothing weird happened. When I Followed all the instructions on the bottle, the fabric was only a slight, light purple color....nothing like the dark eggplant it was supposed to be. |
