Default Asbestos Law - Silicosis

According to the National Institute of Health, silicosis is a
respiratory disease caused by inhalation of silica dust which leads to
inflammation and then scarring of the lung tissue. There are three
types of silicosis.

* Simple chronic silicosis results from long-term exposure (more than
20 years) to low amounts of silica dust. Nodules of chronic
inflammation and scarring provoked by the silica dust form in the
lungs and chest lymph nodes. This disease may feature breathlessness
and may resemble chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Is this in reply to something? or you just trying to scare hell out of
someone in particular?

keep the glass wet while working it cold, and you will have more problems
with city air.

I'm guessing it's the usual bottom-feeding lawyer scum trying to find
plaintiffs. Maybe me so the lio ma (spaces inserted to keep away the spam
bots) is finally played out so they're moving on to other stuff?

Happily, stained glass dust doesn't contain crystalline silicates. You
can breath all the glass dust you want, and you'll die a horrible
death coughing of something else instead of silicosis.

Hi,
I'm new to the group and I couldn't help myself from jumping in here.
I come from a health care background so I am always interested in
these type of discussions. While I can understand that glass dust may
not lead to silicosis, I can see some other potential problems.
Inhaling glass dust may lead to accumulations of this dust in the
lower reaches of the lungs (alveoli) where it might not be so easily
removed either by coughing or mucous flow. This, of coarse, could
cause long-term respiratory problems related to the amount of dust one
had inhaled. Also, remember that some rat poisons are made with
finely crushed glass and an anticoagulant (warfarin). The idea behind
this is once the rat eats the poison, it will start to bleed
internally from getting cut by the glass. The warfarin prevents the
blood from clotting and the unfortunate animal just bleeds out. One of
the alleged side "benefits" of this process is that the rat get
thirsty and goes to look for water therefore dying somewhere other
than your home or wherever you have put your poison.

BTW, I do glass casting, fusing and slumping.

dennis
