Hey, you started the discussion on what constitutes Asian race and culture,
not anyone else. Yes, Israelis call themselves Israeli because of
citizenship or culture, but it isn't their "race". Mirjam and I have had
our differences, but how dare you tell her she's not Asian because YOU
define it so!!

Mirjam lives in Asia, but she's not Asian. She's quite definitely European.

Although YOU may not consider Israelis "Asian" by "race", the rest of the
(more enlightened) world does. Ask ANY Israeli, Pakistani, or (East)
Indian what "race" they are, and they will all answer Asian. My
daughter, by the way, is not Israeli.

Ok, I need to quibble with this. Israel is in Asia, but not all Israelis
are Asian. The Ashkanazy are quite definitely European.

Yeah, I knew I'd get checked on that "any" and "all"! I was just trying to
stress my point. :-)

Well Goddess knows I'd be bored to tears and quite deprived if nobody
gave me any nits to pick. :-b

Yebbut! What are we debating here, geographical distinctions, cultural

Yes.

enlighten me please?

AFAIK, they consider themselves Central American, residents of the
isthmus, neither North Am nor South Am. Their culture bridges the South
Am Hispanic countries and the North Am Hispanic country of Mexico, yet
they take offense at being lumped in with either, as much as Canadians
resent being called "the 51st US state".

I don't find this to be true at all, but maybe the Mexican people
living in CA are different about their ideas. Mexico is entirely in
N. America, as is Canada.

That's what Karen said. Read it again.

Yes, but Russians are European, not Asian. Russia is in Asia due to
conquest and the Russian Federation includes over 150 different ethnic
groups, some of whom are Asian, but Russians are not.

Eh, what difference does it make. I stand by my understanding that it
is not racist to observe race, geographic placement, culture,
whatever.

The whole thing is my fault. I fell for the Mirjam flame war trap.
Now she's in the filter. Back to normal.

Good for you.
