sticky board question

is the sticky part of sticky board also acid free?

is the glue on sticky board harmful to your stitching projects over time?

if i put a layer of thin quilt batting on the sticky part would the glue still
work it's way through the quilt batting and be harmfoul to my stitching in
years to come?

I do not know if they are now, but they weren't when I used them many
years ago. If it doesn't say acid free on the package it probably
isn't.

Older projects mounted on sticky board seem to be more yellow than
other same age projects that were not mounted on the glue boards.
They also tend to have more stained spots, but I don't know if the
stains are from the sticky board or not. I do know that the glue
stays on the fabric if you try to un-mount the piece a few years
later.

The best advice I can give you is to not use the sticky board to mount
any project that you want to last your lifetime or longer. I reserve
it for little things that I don't expect to last long, like ornaments.

If you are really set on using sticky mounting board you can make acid
free boards yourself with acid free foam core board and acid free
spray mounting adhesive. The adhesive can often be found where
scrapbooking supplies are sold. Read the labels to find one that
works with fabric. Many are re-positionable too.

Cath,

I still use the sticky mounting boards because they come in the sizes I
need usually; HOWEVER I turn the board OVER (to the non sticky side) to
mount my project and use non-rusting tailor's pins to attach it all the
way around the edge. Needless to say, you don't remove the backing from
the sticky side. I also do this because I hate working with foam core.
