Default Made slipper socks last night

Hi everyone,

I added another FO to my list of things to do this year, a new pair of
slipper socks. My old winter ones had worn out the toe and I was
getting a hole in a sole.

Different than the summer sandals, these are made from acrylic yarn
and completely cover my feet.

They are also crocheted, and do not have a square heel like a lot of
the free patterns for slippers I found online.

No pattern, but I'll describe what I did: I used doubled yarn (stash
Red Heart worsted in Paddy Green and Black this time) and a large
hook, size N or P, don't remember which and already stuck it back in
the box, and they look the same, big and white! Working from the toe
up, I made 2 chains and worked a few sc in the 2nd ch from hook,
joined into circle. Ch 1 and worked 2 sc in each sc around to double
the number of sts, tried on my foot, tore out and redid with more sts,
tried on again and fit around my toes OK. Then worked a couple rows
straight, tried on again. Then increased to follow the contour of my
feet a few rows, tried on again. Then worked straight on those until
my ankle, when I increased again, and then divided sts in half, worked
on half, then chained and skipped half for the heel. Worked on half
and on the chain for a some rounds to form the ankle. Broke off.
Joined yarn in the heel hole and crocheted around that for a couple
rows, then decreased evenly around a couple more until the heel was
pretty much closed; left long ends at toe and heel to cinch up those
holes when weaving in ends. Made a cuff a couple sts smaller so they
don't flop loosely at the ankles. To make larger size for my DH, I
increase the length of the foot and have him try them on as I'm going.

They are initially a little loose, but once washed and dried in the
drier, they mold to my feet really well, so I don't feel I have a
weird corner flapping around at the back of my foot. Despite cinching
up the hole at the heel, it doesn't feel lumpy to me, either.

Thinking about the next pair, maybe start with the foot section and
add an afterthought toe like the somewhat afterthought heel, and do
those in contrasting colors, and then I can make new toes or heels
when one blows out next time, but yarn isn't that much, and 2 big
skeins makes a couple pair, so I doubt it, because I like to change
colors on them every year.

Still looking for the cable, but hopefully can post some pics soon!

Your slippers sound nice and toasty! )

I put cuffs that I could turn down over my ankles (double) on my slippers a
couple of times, and I just love them! They really keep my ankles warm, and
if higher up my thigh and shin feels a little cool I could pull them up...
but I've never really had to... once my feet and ankles get warmed up then
the rest of me feels good too. ;o)

Hi Leah,

Those sound really nice. I always have cold feet and have to wear
slipper socks to bed at night.

Hugs,

Nora
