Default Quilt university for EQ5

Hi have my EQ5, and have been very excited to give it a try, yet I have
never even got around to it. What would the differnce be for me to take a
basic class at the university or me taking my manual out & actually reading
it?
Anyone taken this class? How are they taught? Do you get your instruction
through e-mail?
Please do share your experience.

Taking a class may be a waste of money. I was able to start using it
without any classes. I did use the manual for the first couple of times.
That was back in 1992 when it was just called EQ. I've gotten every upgrade
since the first one except for EQ3. I went straight from EQ2 to EQ4. The
Getting Started booklet has a little tutorial in it and it is really simple.
Just try it out a little and you'll see what I mean.

You can always email me if you have any questions. If I don't know the
answer I'll figure it out for you.

I never took the basics class but I've taken all the others. I'm taking
Advanced Drawing right now. I've learned some different tricks and
things that I wouldn't have necessarily picked up from the books.

Course I don't always remember them so I occasionally have to go back
through my notes and such from the classes.

I, on the other hand, did do the classes at Quilt University. I did
Basics, Easy Draw, Patch Draw and the Color Tools. I saved each
lesson in PDF form (you need the full version of Acrobat to do this)
and then arranged them in order. Took out the repeated pages from
each lesson and some of them turned out to be above 60 + pages of
information. I did learn several new things and a couple of buttons
that I didn't know existed, so in my mind, it was worth the money. I
also have all of the books from EQ. Each one has a few tips or ways
of doing something that I had never thought of. They are good for
inspiration and ideas as well as for the information. Like having a
teacher sitting with you.

Now, I did own the program about a year before I did all of this, so I
did learn a lot before hand . . . . .

Go ahead, ask me about how to add a whole fabric pallet to EQ5 the
easy way . . 'cus I know now!!

Off to work to pay for the goodies . . . . . . .

I have held off getting the software because I spend too much time on the
computer NOW. I am afraid that if I can make quilts digitally, I won't go
to the "bother" of cutting and sewing.

OTOH, I am extremely color challenged. If a quilt block calls for more than
3 colors, I am frozen in indecision. I wonder if the program could help me
with that.

I understand that a whole lot of you have used the program to create
wonderful designs that you then turn into magnificent quilts. I just don't
know if I will do that or not.

Just jump in there Teri . I have had mine for about two weeks now and I love
it. I have two quilt tops cut out to take on vacation with me . I love the
rotary cutting instruction . I was always been afraid of cutting pieces
rotary cutting but everything is right there.

I planning on making a Storm at sea, and bordering it with the Monkey Wrench
block . All with the help of EQ5.
Good Luck , and have fun with your EQ5.
