Default Cat owners, I have a ? for you

I bought some catnip at the store and want to make some cat toys for my DM
and DS cats. Can I use crafting felt for this? Or would it be better if I
used a cotton, thin calico fabric? I was wondering if the kitties would
claw away the felt and choke on it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

My SIL has made kitty presents for my furry children for several years. she
uses felt and they seem to be just fine with that.

This may not work for you, but others reading might find it interesting.
I don't think you have to worry about felt.
When we got a kitten, I crocheted - with acrylic yarn - small little
objects in the shape of a mouse, including tail and little ears. I
stuffed them lightly with cellophane and a bell - so they "crinkled" and
"tinkled" when played with. They lasted forever, the cat loved it.

I have taken triangles of regular felt, folded it in two (with two
layers of felt), stuffed with catnip, and sewn around the edges. These
lasted a couple of years with my cats. They did not claw out chunks to
eat, but they did play with them a good deal.

Thanks, everyone, for your answers. I am going to give it a try. I just
wanted the kitties to have something to play with tha wouldn't hurt them.
The catmip always makes them crazy and they are a hoot to watch!

Thanks agian,

Someone told me a long time ago that catnip was a drug to a cat. Is that
true?

I understand that it is akin to a sex pheremone (sp ?) and not
surprisingly that is what makes them interested ! G

Dunno about that, but it is a mint, and my cats not only love catnip,
when I am eating peppermint ice cream they get in my lap and try to lick
out the bowl before I am done. With vanilla they just show up when I am
done, and they aren't interested in chocolate or fruit flavored
sherbets.

I had a cat that LOVED thin mint Girl Scout cookies. She preferred them
frozen.
