I 'm fresh grad (major business)
and now I got a job about textile trading, how can I get more basic knowledege about textile ? any books or website or newsgroup recommend? Congratulations, on both the degree and the job! Much success to you. There are some good textbooks on textiles. Check with Fairchild Publications (they publish W Magazine, which is the industry "bible"). They used to have several good books, although I haven't looked for their titles lately. You might also look into some university presses, especially ones that have Textile and Design degrees. Clemson, for instance, has a huge program for the "industry", and so does Auburn University. There's also something called, I think, T3 (as in T *cubed*), and the entire thing is a support system for the fashion industry, in particular the manufacturing end. And finally, if you need info on technical fabrics, there is an association called the Industrial Fabrics Association International. They have publications relating to the various types of fabrics used in marine and other applications. I don't have recent info on any of these resources; it's all in my book (Sew Up A Storm: All the Way to the Bank! now out of print), and has not been updated for about 10 years. I do know that a lot has changed, so your best bet is to use what I've given you as a start for some Google searching. Best of luck to you! Karen Maslowski in Cincinnati |
