The great thing about Mae's - they carry an incredible variety
of size (2-24), and price - from the low hundred's to about $10,000. It's
one of those places where people going to the real galas buy dresses. And
they have great customer service, actual seamstresses that do the
alterations - just like in the olden days :^) And it's always fun to check
out Mae's huge jewelry (the owner has some worth ogling).

Absolutely ;-) My mom got the dress she wore to my
wedding at Mae's. It required fairly extensive alteration
(the bodice was heavily embellished and she changed the
neckline extensively, plus it had a little fishtail train
that she had bustled--too cute) and the alterations woman
did an *amazing* job.

So, FWIW - I did really well in Nordie's at Tyson's. Got 2 outfits - one is
kind of sort of victorian meets fantasy - floaty on the bias skirt,
asymetrical hem - black on black with a couple of kinds of lace trim, long
tunic w/ half sleeves - kind of petal sleeves of lace, and a deep v-neck
-with more assymetrical trim. It's nice. Also got - what I think I'm wearing
- a really nice silk, Ivory, burn-out velvet blouse with a deep drape
neckline, and long, pointy sleeves - embroidered with some really nice
opally beads, little cyrstals. It's a floral burn-out pattern.. And I like
the very long, slit open sleeves. Have black silk evening pants - kind of
interesting - they're 2 layers - the under like regular palazzo pants, and
the over - slit open all the way up the sides. It's an interesting look - I
think that's what I want to wear for the Black Tie evening -it's on a boat,
and I still have the stupid walking cast, so......DH got a really nice white
on white shirt, with a black on black tie, so we should go nicely together -
as if that would honestly matter - sartorially speaking. I did learn that
the formal wear shirts - even with traditional rather than wing collar -
have no pocket - which distinguishes them from regular shirts.

Oooh, sounds nice. I'll bet you two look smashing together,
and sounds perfect with the cast.

Take care,
Ericka

Hmmm, I've never been to a TJ Maxx. Do you know if they have anything
over DDD? I've not yet found a store out here that carries those sizes
so I make a trip to Des Moines every year. Sigh.

I think it depends on what comes into the store. I've seen tiny things (28
A) to the 50 DD (yesterday's shopping). Have you checked the Just My Size
catalog? That's were a 38 H friend of mine shops.

I haven't ordered from them for a long time. I prefer to go to a store,
especially one that offers fittings, and buy only what fits. I hate
returning catalog orders that don't fit. Stacey's in Des Moines was
wonderful when I lived a half-hour away. The current 13+ hour drive is
a bit daunting. Sadly I've only located chain lingerie stores out here
and they think all women are 34B or 36C.

On a side note, my roommate in college had the opposite problem being a
24AA. She was a polite young lady from Japan who couldn't imagine going
without proper undergarments. She didn't realize that most women here
are not so fine-boned so finding such a small band size was, well, I
have better luck finding 38G. I told her never to throw a bra in the
school's washing machines since it was almost certain to be destroyed.
Of course I quit machine washing them since they would inevitably be
stolen from the laundry when I had my back turned. I knew which guys
had a stolen mannequin in their room so I gathered up my moxie and
demanded the return of my clothes. Since I personally knew the dean of
students (worked in that office), they were afraid I'd report them. Ha!
They never knew I'd be far too embarrassed to do that...

Yikes - I'll keep my eyes open!
Ok - a hint from a friend - she gets fitted and then finds a mail order
source for it. ( try http://plussizebras.org/guides.html)

And thank for another benefit of the all female school, if a bra was stolen
at least it was to be worn!

Brenda - have you tried the Nordstroms on-line ordering. I'm still just
between a C and D, but need the support - especially when I now got up to
the 40 D (what happens when you gain weight) - so all the pretty 36 Cs are
in the drawer, put away. Anyhow, I've been getting bras there for about 12
years - they carry Wacoal - which are expensive, but well worth it, and I
find the last for a couple of years, at least (as long as you don't put them
in the dryer - I wash them in one of those mesh bags in the machine).

Anyhow, I got 3 bras - woohoo - 2 seamless called Ultra Body-suede - kind of
a supportive microfiber, and one really cool black lace, deep vee from a
company called Felice's (I think they're British). They carry 2 other
companies that go larger than D - all the way to DDD, or F - one is called
Chantelle - they go very big in cup size, and the other is Fantasie - they
may only go to DDD. But, I know the Wacoal bras come in a multitude of
sizes. It might be worth it for you to take a look. The bras go on sale a
couple of times a year, and I've ordered some in July - for $34 instead of
$60.

Y'know - I was flat-chested, or close to it - a very happy 34A or B with
some help, and at 15 my stupid GYN decided to put me on hormone therapy (no
periods) and in 6 weeks my 34 almost B was now a whopping, full 36 C. Great
- I was in my last year of high-school, and my ballerina best friend, the
size 3, 32AA, was hysterical - I looked like some plant that got
overfertilized.

I shop TJ Maxx and Marshalls occassionally - get a lot of good household
linens and things at Marshalls. But, I don't do clothes shopping that much,
and have become much used to buying "good stuff" on sale - or sweats
wherever they come from. For me, I'm either a total mess in baggy drawstring
pants, or sweats, cause I'm working in the house on the painting thing. Or,
we're going out - so I have "good jeans" or nice casual stuff for going to
the games, and then there's really going out - so I have some really nice
things. But, not tons of it. I tend to get things that I can use again
rather than buy more of stuff I'll toss. I do a lot of sale shopping - I
think I told Cheryl - the original outfit I bought is formal kind of pant
suit - black on black silk jaquard - got it at Lord & Taylor - reduced from
$300 - $80 - including the nice, slightly opalescent black silk knit shell.
It's the living in the urban area dress thing.

Cheryl does really well at the bargain stores, I suspect. I'm short on
patience shopping in messy stores, so I just don't shop often.

Well, got to run

Those sound comfy!

Oh dear - I went from a 36B to a 40C thanks to DS's arrival.

Me either - I'll be the first to admit I got very lucky! My favorite store
is Home Goods - table linens to food to these wonderful leather boxes I lust
after! And bath goodies too!
