Do you think the stuff would be good lubicant on a Batt lap charged with
diamond?

A Batt lap sounds like something one finds when a flying rodent sits
down.
But probably not...

Batt laps are the product of Gearloose. He won't say so because he's too
modest and considerate of the rules, but it is one of the best, if not
the best, polishing lap for gemstones(especially those above 7.5 Mohs).
I currently use light machine oil as a lubricant. Works well, if you put
on a drop or two, spread it evenly, then wipe with denatured alcohol on a
paper towel. CZ, spinel, sapphire all come up to polish very nicely from
#3000 prepolish. The Batt is charged with 50,000 mesh diamond spray.

It also turns out to be one of the best cutting laps, especially for
quartz, which tends to clog up bonded laps. I currently have five BATT
laps - I think I want one more.

I would actually do a bulk charge with powder, to start with. The BATT
lap can soak up a lot of diamond, and just keeps getting better.

Most any light oil will work as a lubricant. WD-40 is popular with
some faceters.

My experience has been that the uniformity of particle size is better in
the sprays. When I start picking up zinc on the facets, I just give it a
spritz or two and run a bit of CZ back and forth a couple of times by
hand in a sweeping motion with the lap turning quite slow. Don't care
for the smell of WD-40. I tried mineral oil for a while but found it to
thick. When the lap starts to talk to me too loud, I often just put a
tiny bit of oil on the facet I'm polishing and sweep back and forth.

That depends on the quality of the powder you buy. After all, the
spray is made using powder :-) For polishing, I use LapidaryPro from
ColorWright. I assume it's available from other vendors.

I don't know what machine oil you use. Most anything seems to work.
One that some people like is valve oil, from the music store. (I think
it's used to lube the valves on brass instruments.)

Yes, that might be a little lighter than the sewing machine oil I use.
It doesn't say sewing machine on it, but that's the viscosity I'm talking
about. About half the droplet size of mineral oil. The valve oil should
do better. Being a trumpet player married to a trumpet player, parents
of a trumpet player dating a trumpet player, you'd have thought that
would have occured to me, but it didn't. Go figure.
