Default Does Jacqueline's questions remind others of Christina in OK?

Thanks to everyone who is responding to Jacqueline's questions. Her
posts have reminded me so much of the original posts from Christina in
OK. Both are intelligent women with a passion to learn to quilt and no
one around to show them the basics. Just think how far Christina has
come in the few years she has been posting here. Jacqueline will be
stitching up a storm in no time at all. In both cases I want to drive
over to their house and give them a few basic lessons.

Jacqueline, please keep asking and we will keep answering.

Susan

Susan you are welcome any time if you can put up with my DDAd and his
memory loss. Actually I would love to have company but I am afraid
that it would confuse him even more. I had a friend to come in this
past weekend and I wanted her to stay at the house vs. a motel but I
was afraid to do so and she was in the same agreement, that it
probably wouldn't be good for him, but anyway you are still welcome to
drop by.

I appreciate all everyone has done for me and will do for me in the
future. I love you folks.

Jacqueline, in addition to our both being newbies here, I took
care of my demented dad.... He died in 1999. That whole
experience sure took a lot out of me.

Jean I am convinced that it was not an accident that we both showed up
here about the same time. I took care of my mother for seven years
prior to her death, I also took care of my grandmother and two cousins
before they passed away and yes I use to hold a full time job, but
became disabled and had to quit, being I was in the medical field this
job just fell to me, funny I am the youngest but I am the caregiver
too. So now I am taking care of dad, he can still get around but his
memory is getting worse by the day. He can even still drive and does
so much better than a lot of other people I have ridden with, he even
owns a 4-wheeler and does sometimes go out on it, he is 84, but he
loves the outdoors. I figure if he dies outdoors he will be happier
than if he died in front of his computer. I do worry about him
getting lost and not knowing his way home and he carries all three of
us girls phone numbers in his billfold for that reason. Today we were
late eating and he did not even realize we had not eaten, that is when
it gets to be so sad but when he doesn't know who I am is when I will
probably stroke and I know it will come some day.

Sorry to pour this out but it was just kind of bottled up.

Default OT - Does Jacqueline's questions remind others of Christina in OK?

Pouring is allowed here (although usually prefaced by OT
in the subject line)

BTW - my mum died while pottering around outside in her
garden, which is what she would have wanted I think.

Care givers are very special people, and the world could use
many more of them.

My dad did that at the tender age of 53. 24 years ago, and I still miss
him.

It could. I don't think I'll ever be one: I don't have the patience or
the mind set. Looking after a small child was quite enough for me!
Makes me more than grateful to those who do.

That's okay, Jacqueline. Would you be interested in a really
good email group on Alz? I am still on it, even though dad
died in 1999.

Be really careful about that driving. You don't want your dad
to endanger the lives of others--or to get lost with perhaps
extremely bad results.

Caregiving takes a lot out of a person--as you know. Try to
take care of yourself. (I wish I had taken that advice
myself....)
