Default quilt show

Haven't been on here for a long while, but just had to tell you all
about the show in Slidell, LA. No pictures as my camera went bonkers.

The quilts were all so beautiful. Real eye candy. Mostly machine
quilted although a hand quilted one won second place.

A lot of trupunto and applique this year. I saw a half dozen quilted
jackets, mostly silk or dupeoni ( I think that's how you spell it)
All hand stuffed trupunto. The jackets have to be seen to be
appreciated. Most of the quilts were queen size or King. One was
hand embroidered and was started when the lady evacuated because of
hurricane Katrina.

One quilt that caught my eye was of Colonial Ladies and the sashing,
if you want to call it that, was small patchwork blocks made of feed
sacks. What an original.

This show is put on by the Gulf Coast Quilters Association. (Not a
member just love their work). This assocation includes all the states
on the Gulf of Mexico. The show will continue through tomorrow.

One sad note our little quilt shop is going out of business, Bo-Ho-Ho.
Damn the economy for interferring with quilting.

Thanks for the report, Kate! Is the show in Slidell every year or does
it move from place to place? DH and I may be making a trip down that way
in the next year or two, and it'd be great if we could time it so we're
there during the show.

Hey Louise

The show moves, you will have to check their website. The last time a
show was in Slidell was a couple years ago and that was in June. I
missed that one.

I am thinking there will be a quilt show in Hattiesburg MS this year
also. I think they do their's on even years. Its held in the
convention center.

The best time to come to the coast is in the Spring. Not hot yet and
everything is in bloom with all kinds of festivals going on. This
week there is a Crawfish festival on the Mississippi Gulf coast. When
you come, be prepared to have a great time.

I learned my lesson - the first time we visited was in July! To say it
was hot and humid is an understatement! Last time it was February, and
that was much better. I'm aiming for March or April next time!
