I am thinking of purchasing the new Husqvarna Viking Sapphire sewing
machine with fabric mover and stitch regulator. If you have one -
would appreciate your comments. Thanks - Nan

Personal opinion of the "fabric mover".... don't waste your money. G
I am a fan of Husqvarna/Viking products and have been for many years.
This is made for them by someone else, as I understand it. And when I
sat down and tried it it was more trouble than it was worth. The actual
area you have to sew in is very small, and then you have to stop and,
with needle down, reposition the mover under the fabric to a new area.
I decided it would take as much time as learning to free motion quilt
without it, and I could spend the money on lots of other things instead.

The Sapphire is supposed to be a pretty good machine.

Same opinion as Pati C from me too. I have respect for the Viking SMs in
general. I gave the fabric mover a thorough inspection and decided it was
an expensive nuisance. My closest quilting buddy has a Viking Quilter's
Classic and she brags about it until my ears nearly fall off. Do take a
look at that one. Polly

Pati, I'm glad you said something, since you're a Husqvarna person. G
I tried the fabric mover last fall in Houston, and I thought it was a
royal PITA. If you're only quilting a very small (as in, as small as the
FM itself) piece, you'd probably be fine. However, for anything larger,
you'd spend as long or longer repositioning things as you'd spend
quilting.

I second this. It is a pain to get a big quilt done. Not worth the money.

I have the Sapphire machine and love it. I wouldn't bother with the
fabric mover and the stitch regulator. The machine itself sews like a
dream.

Default Sapphire Sewing Machine

Hey! I was at a quilting retreat today and we were talking about the
Sapphire. I have a Husqvarna SE, but it weighs so much I hate taking it to
class and workshops. I lifted the Sapphire at a quilt shop awhile back and
it _is_ lighter.

Another woman and I are going to a shop on Monday to test drive one. If I
really like it, I may come home with one. It really needs to have a good
buttonhole appliqué stitch. I know it has 2 lights which I love, and it has
the needle down feature that I love as well. The pressure foot comes up
when the needle goes down when you stop so you don't even need the walking
foot. Plus all the feet I have bought for the SE will fit it.

I tried the fabric mover at a quilt show and it was not for me. The woman
who was demonstrating it couldn't even get it to work.

So I'll report back Tuesday.

Mary, I am _thinking_ they are about $1,500, but I am not for certain. And
there will most certainly be specials at some point.

Default Fabric Mover Gismo was Sapphire Sewing Machine

Yep, what Sandy says! I watched her try out the fabric
mover in Houston, then I tried it too. Even though the
SM was Pfaff, and I LOVE my Pfilomina Pfaff SM, I did
NOT like this Fabric Mover thingie. PAT in VA
