Repairing a line
Hi all,
I used to know a good knot for repairing a broken line that will have tension in it so that the knot will not have a right angle in it. Can anybody help refresh my memory? Thanks -- Jeff Ciaccio Dallas, GA |

There is a number of ways to do that. What kind of line how thick and for what purpose are you using it? If it is anything up to maybe 1/2" cord, a single or double fisherman's knot will do just fine. For medium thickness, perhaps a Figure of Eight bend will do you. Carrick bend would be used for very thick line. Make sure you seize the free ends to the standing parts and don't allow the bend to collapse into a mess. Of course the purist way of doing business would be to do a long splice. -- Karl Pollak, Richmond, British Columbia Sea Scouting in Canada at http://www.seascouts.ca/ |

In case you're still around, are you referring to rope, fishing line, or something else when you say "line"? Also, what do you mean by not wanting to have a right angle in your knot? Are you indicating that your primary consideration is strength retention and that other considerations are unimportant? |
