A Different Sort of RCB Challenge
Perhaps this isnt the best time of year to propose a new project for RCB,
but it is important to get the ball rolling (or not as the case may be) now. A short while ago we were discussing Su's teeny tiny Christmas tree and her lampworked bead ornaments, and that led to Tina suggesting such trees could be made and sold, and that in turn led me to the idea that we in RCB could challenge ourselves to decorate and sell a small Christmas tree this coming year. That is the first question, is this an idea ya'll can get behind? Could you picture making small ornaments of glass, beads, clay, etc to decorate a tree? Second question is, what would we do with the money raised from this venture? At first I thought finding a cause that our diverse group could agree upon was impossible, but then I realized that the one thing we all loved to see is beaders encouraged on their journey into beadaholicism. We could use it to send a student to a lampworking class, or wire working.. or...??? If this idea appeals to anyone, wonderful!! Would someone who is more financially fluid than I be willing to find and buy a nice looking small tree while they are still being sold? Would someone also like to play host to the tree and all the ornaments that are made? There are other details to work out and this is a time to bring them out and discuss them. How to decide who gets the gift of a class or whatever good deed we decide to perform.. that sort of thing... Let the discussions begin! Diana -- Weird people need beads, too |

Sounds like a good idea though I'm not sure I understand the mechanics
of it. Would we each make our own christmas tree, or would we each make ornaments and one person would assemble it? You are talking about for xmas 2005, right? [BTW all, I am not christian but I think this would be a nice fundraising idea. Let's PLEASE not make this into a "remember some of us aren't christian" thing. Each person could contribute or not depending on their interest.] marisa2 Diana Curtis wrote: Perhaps this isnt the best time of year to propose a new project for RCB, but it is important to get the ball rolling (or not as the case may be) now. I think it would be fun - and just to set things right - take a look at
the history of the Christmas tree - http://www.historychannel.com/exhibi...mas/trees.html the very "root" of the idea (pardon the pun) seems to run through many faiths. So what better symbol to use? Since RCB is a mix of so many different types of people! It could be called something like RCB's holiday tree of unity. Since it appears that the the use of greenery is used by many faiths and cultures to symbolize renewal, rebirth and anticipation of the bounty to come! We would all be united under one tree tradition . Denise R Glitzy Glass Studio www.glassbeadz.com |

A tree of Unity... Love that... To answer Marisa's question, everyone and
anyone could make and donate an ornament to decorate one tree, or more if we get carried away. :-) Diana -- Weird people need beads, too "Glitzy Glass" wrote in message oups.com... Second question is, what would we do with the money raised from this
venture? Hey, I make LOTS of tiny xmas ornamaments, I can get behind that idea--and also offer to host the ensuing pics on the website as there's tons of room still. as to the money---what about a donation to CERF the Creafters Emergency Relief Fund? http://www.craftemergency.org/ Sarajane Sarajane's Polymer Clay Gallery http://www.polyclay.com |

I dont have a huge preference to where the money goes as long as we can
agree that its going to a good place. Im glad to have lots of options to consider. Thanks SJ! Diana -- Weird people need beads, too "Sjpolyclay" wrote in message ... Plus, people who celebrate other holidays use ornaments and help decorate,
too. Yule, Solstice, Hannukah, Kwanzaa - whatever you celebrate can be represented in an ornament. -- Kandice Seeber Air & Earth Designs http://www.lampwork.net Sounds like a good idea though I'm not sure I understand the mechanics of it.
