Cardboard machines
I'm looking at a book entitled "Gear Up!", by Keith Good, published by Lerner Publications. It's aimed at kids and shows them how to build functioning machines using mostly cardboard. For example, the belt of a conveyor belt is made of cardboard. It looks like a lot of fun but I'm finding it hard to believe that the nice looking stuff they show in the pictures won't fall apart the first or second time one uses it, or that it will work at all. I'm particularly skeptical in the case of gear mechanisms. Anyway, I'd like to know whether anyone has tried this stuff and whether they have enough positive experiences with cardboard to be more optimistic about the projects depicted in this nice book. -- Ignorantly, Allan Adler * Disclaimer: I am a guest and *not* a member of the MIT CSAIL. I haven't gotten any replies to this question. If someone can suggest a more appropriate newsgroup for it, please let me know. Thanks. -- Ignorantly, Allan Adler * Disclaimer: I am a guest and *not* a member of the MIT CSAIL. My actions and * comments do not reflect in any way on MIT. Also, I am nowhere near Boston. |
