Default Let's talk!!

Hi,
I have been signed into this newsgroup for a few months, and also another
group (RCTYarn).
I was beginning to think that I was one of the Minority Machine
Owners/Users! I also felt a bit "out of place" as the yarn posters were
mainly knitting by hand!
They had problems I couldn't envisage. At first it took me a while to
realise that they were hand-knitters, as I kept wondering why they were not
using Knitradars/knitleaders; and doing tensions for whatever yarn they had!
OK; I was slow in remembering that needles were invented before domestic
machines that is what 30+ yrs of machines does to you!
But... they are a very friendly bunch!!

I have a Family of Silver Reed (or Knitmaster/Empisal) machines. Fine,
Standard and Chunky Gauges.
My obsession started when I was 9 yrs old and saw an Aunt with this
"cumbersome but intriguing apparatus". That was back in the 1960s.
When I was 13 yrs old I bought my first Knitting Machine. It came with yarn
and patterns. I cringe with embarrassment, now, to remember the dress I
knitted and the colours I used!!!!

Over the years I have upgraded and increased my stock of machines (and
yarn!). I even ran my own Knitwear business while the children were you (and
cheap). Somewhere along the line I "discovered" computers and put knitting
aside. The idea of joining Knitting Newsgroups was to re-enter the knitting
world (there aren't any physical clubs in my area).
I tried to knit a garment a month (just to change my wardrobe) but have
managed only 4 for the year 2003. The last one I finished yesterday was a
Sparkly Jumper to match a previous skirt.
I am taking a break now, to deal with Christmas/New Year; but intend to
start again in January and get at least 5 garments done in 2004.

Oops.. I have written a lot, better stop and give someone else a chance to
talk!!

Seasons greetings to you all, and I hope we will find KM inspiration here.

Hi Kari:
I'm a newbie to Studio/Silver-Reed machines. I used to knit on Brother
electronic machines but decided to switch since Brother is no longer
in the knitting machine business. I have a Studio 580 (Knitmaster) and
the Studio midgauge 860. I plan to use these more after the holidays.
I have DAK 6.0 and will be using it through the EC-1.

I've yet to make a sweater on the knitting machine. Mostly socks,
hats, afghans, scarves. I've done a lot of afghans and then
personalized it with my embroidery machine.

Hi Kari,
I think that's why this group was created, but a lot of people defected to
Yahoo mail groups and the like. Probably because they didn't have spam
filters. I tried some for a while but they make RCTY seem low-traffic!

They had problems I couldn't envisage. At first it took me a while to

I do both hand and machine knitting and have even been guilty of forgetting
to swatch. Love my knit leader, though!

Ah. I have a mixed family in the same gauges. Mine are all punch card
machines, but 2 are Brother and fine gauge one is Singer/Studio. It was the
last one acquired and I'm still not perfectly comfortable with it. It has
Russell Levers like my first machine, and old Genie 710, but there were too
many years in between and I've not sat down and really gotten acquainted
with the fine gauge what with one thing and another.

Lucky you! I didn't get my first one until I was nearly 30!

I hear you. The best one near me is half way round the DC beltway and
starts shortly after morning rush hour. By the time I'd get there I was way
too stressed out! But while I lasted, there was a nice incentive to produce
something each month for the round of "Show & Tell".

I tried to knit a garment a month (just to change my wardrobe) but have
managed only 4 for the year 2003. The last one I finished yesterday was a
Sparkly Jumper to match a previous skirt.

And what were the other 3?

I am taking a break now, to deal with Christmas/New Year; but intend to

Good goals!

No, no, don't stop now!

Finally some action! When this group has a lull it pretty well drops dead. I
just finished up the rest of the knitting I needed for the holidays. I
wanted an outfit for myself but I would be getting too stressed out being
this close to Xmas. It never fails when you have a deadline that nothing
goes right. I had a new brainstorm lately. I saw all these cute little
teddy bears in the local $ stores & wondered what I could do with them. I
make a lot of baby outfits for sale and thought, OK, I could dress the bear
in the same outfit, it only takes scraps to make it. So, for an extra buck
I can charge an extra $5 for the set. I let the garter carriage do the work
so there's not much of my time involved and I've already sold 2 this week. I
can't wait to after the holidays to get back at them. Well Happy Holidays &
Happy Knitting to all. Hope we can get this group up and chattting again!
