First I would like to say....this is my own personal opinion.

I personally feel that there are people that have not learned to
become free thinkers, and not everyone has an open mind. They don't
seem to understand the concept of *just because something is
different, doesn't mean it's wrong or bad*. An opinion doesn't
necessarily mean that something is wrong, bad or unacceptable, it
could just be an opinion. Perhaps even a way of suggesting a way to
improve something. After all, people have their individual likes,
dislikes and way of doing things, whatever they're most personally
comfortable with. I notice that a lot of people feel the need to
*belong to a group* or the need for social support and acceptance.
Hence the reason that cliques or groups form. I also personally know
some people that thrive on conflict...must be some sort of stimulant
for them. (one of my sisters comes to mind). And of course, the way
we each interpret the things we see and hear....leaves a lot of room
for misunderstanding and conflict.

But I don't understand "why". To me, it makes humankind not much
further along than ants.

I don't get why teen agers scream over a rock star, or hang posters all
over their room's walls. I didn't get it when I was a teen, and I don't
get it now. When teens are screaming to stand out, they really don't
stand out . . . they're just forming group relationships in like kind.

I don't understand why you can't get ahead unless you belong to a group.
In the U.S., that group is often religious in nature.

I simply don't get it. I guess it will take another 5,000 years to
evolve some more. g

Rock star?? What rock star?? It was Paul Newman posters (but only two) on
*my* wall thank-you-very-much vbg!! And it was a step up from Precious
Moments, or some other cuteness....

But I don't get the screaming, either, never did.

I don't understand why you can't get ahead unless you belong to a group.

It's something that evolved in the days when being part of a group greatly
improved one's odds of survival. And I think it resurfaces in times of
uncertainty.

So, mankind hasn't evolved much. grin

DH and I have been watching National Geographics series on "Taboos".
How cultures (except the Asians on some of these issues) handle
uncomfortable social difficulties. Last night it was on transgender. A
couple of weeks ago, tatooing. It's been a fascinating foray.

LOL! Don't really think so, no matter how much we'd like to believe it!
